When I was shopping, I looked at the 34x10.5x17 KO2 but it was $110 more per tire than the 285/75/17 KO2 I decided on.

I have noticed this across the board pretty much. A 33, 34,35, etc is almost always more expensive than a 285,295,315,etc. Also I like more tire less wheel that's why I have 16s. But there is definitely more tire options for 17s.

I like BFG KO2s, great riding and very low noise, and long lasting. I've had a lot of different ATs, currently I have Toyo AT IIIs on my Tundra 285/75-18 34.8", and they are more noisy and not the softest riding.
I also have Toyo AT IIIs on the wife's CUV P225/65-17, long lasting, but again a little noisier

Also FJ Cruiser alloys and steelies are 17x7.5 et 15 4.75" BS, and so are the 1G Tundra/Sequoia double 5-spoke alloys

Without mud my rec would be the Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT or XLT. It's not the most agressive looking tire, but its quiet on the way to the trail and balance and wear super well.

I haven't priced anything out yet, but that kind of $ would nearly be a deal breaker for me. Especially since, ideally, I'd be looking for something a little more aggressive than an A/T, since I'll have the winter needs taken care of with a separate wheel. That said, the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T in 255/85r17 intrigues me as an all-in-one option.

It would be nice to know the weight and nice having an even skinnier option. Personally, I've just written off steel wheels entirely but maybe they aren't thaaaaat bad. I saw the 17x7.5 version is just a hair over 30lbs. I doubt the 7" would be that much lighter but definitely a little bit. Not ideal, but when compared to some of the heavier 17's out there they aren't crazy. I'm just also not considering those heavy 17's unless I could pair them with a tire that drops my total weight down below where I am now and so far that doesn't seem like a possibility.

@clenkeit I will weigh my spare (4runner) and we'll calculate. The stock dunloops list at 39lbs if someone casually gets to this task before me. I guess I might as well weigh my stock wheels (7" sr5) too.

For reference, the 5 bolt 17x6.5" steelies that come on camry weigh 21lbs.

For me I like the ease / cost of buying and painting steelies and that they're from T. But yes I ride stock alloys for now. I want to paint those bright colors too sometimes

I'm a bit neurotic but I've gotten into the habit of weighing wheels/tires for all of my vehicles, lol. I should probably be better about documenting those measurements. Usually I'm just interested to see what the difference is when I get new wheels or tires and if that difference ends up causing a change in mpg or how the car drives.

I really dig the look of steelies on some vehicles but unfortunately I don't think it fits the aesthetic of my truck. But the more you talk about them the more I'm starting to get intrigued

After writing that last post, today I want to paint my sr5 wheels.

I started posting in this thread because I was looking for a 7.5" wide wheel to run 285's on my 4runner. But today I have been reading that some people needed to use a spacer to limit the up travel as the tire hit fender for them on full compression. I'm not at that point yet.

Wildpeaks have been a great all round tire for me and did great here, but I'm sure they will hit their limit before a serious rock crawling tire - whatever that might be.

I just thought I would update this thread I started from awhile back, thanks to everyone for their input. I went a different direction entirely with the wheels. I went with the Fast HD Recon 17x8 +20, mostly because it was one of the few available with the new 95.1 hub bore. For tires I went with the Toyo R/T in E load 285/70R17. Very happy so far, it has just walked through everything I have put it up against to this point.

Everything is fitting great on stock suspension, but I’m craving a small lift and toying with the idea of going 295/70R17 as there is a new set of Toyo R/Ts on marketplace near me, or maybe a C load Toyo MT in 285/70R17.
