With it being, apparently, 2023... I wanted to inquire if the resolution limit for TW-hosted images might be slightly increased?

It appears that the current limit is 1280 pixels, but maybe something like 1600 might give a reasonable boost in resolution for modern displays, hopefully without adding too much burden on the hosting costs? I have no idea on the latter, but cameras these days produce dramatically more useful resolution, and eventually the current resolution limit is going to look pretty dated.

Some folks on the forum do really high-quality photography, and embed their images from 3rd party hosting sites with spectacular resolution. I love it. But 3rd party hosting is generally problematic for forums in the long run... I mean, God, how many forums did Photobucket ruin? (Those bastards!) Plus, some of us are simply too lazy, cheap, or incompetent to host images elsewhere.

I'm quite content spewing huge quantities of low-quality photography directly to TW, and enjoy knowing it won't disappear at the whim of some greedy company changing its interface or its policies, or more likely, because I stopped paying the bills. Heck, even if I get hit by a bus tomorrow, it'll be nice to know my lousy photos will still be there on TW, disappointing folks for hopefully years to come.

And while we're on the topic, it would be nice if the TW-hosted videos (from gifs) could get a bit more resolution too. I agree that YouTube is likely to remain rock-solid for free high-resolution video hosting, but nobody wants to click a YouTube video because of how terrible and obnoxious YouTubers are... or any other social media platform for that matter... no thanks to liking and subscribing, no thanks to app redirections, and I especially no, oh no no no to ever hearing that "oh no" song again. The autoplaying (and silent, thank god) gifs are just perfect, but between the 20MB upload cap, and whatever subsequent process ingests them for hosting, I'm finding most of my videos are coming through at 480 pixel resolution, even if I managed to get way higher resolution in the original gif.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as a complaint. TW is my favorite corner of the internet. Thank you for hosting my thousands of mediocre images for free already, while most of us cruise around with adblockers and referral strippers like a pack of ungrateful freeloading teenagers.

Will increase the image resolution, improve gif quality (when post-processed on here), increase gif upload size limit and we're also working on improving the gif processing speed (can currently take 15 seconds for some larger gifs). Vid uploads are in the works as well.

Bob, I don't mean to complain, but it seems that sometime between August and October, upload ingest resolution dropped all the way down to ~1024, notably below the former 1280, and a far cry from the glorious 1600 with which you blessed us just over a year ago.

I get it -- my photos aren't really that great, and I upload them by the hundreds. I am a prolific freeloader.

But this is such a fantastic forum, there is nowhere else I would rather post my photos. 1024 pixel resolution simply isn't enough to convey the crushing mediocrity of my artistic ambitions. I would argue it's not even enough for informational images pertaining to pickup trucks... although I'm mostly here to post pictures of night landscapes and to spout UFO conspiracy theories.

I recently cleaned out my cup holder, recovering a mass of at least $14 in coins, plus several bills potentially including a $20 or two. I just threw it in the washing machine and am standing by to hand it all over, if you can up the photo resolution again. In case you need help with hosting costs. This is a really valuable forum, and I really hate the inevitable long-term problems associated with externally hosted images. Is there any way you could re-up the image resolution?

Edit: I just found $43 in my wife's car too!

Edit 2: My wife clarified I can't randomly take money out of her purse... so I guess that's no longer on the table.

But to clarify the point: Here's the above photo re-uploaded today:

Edit 3: I guess my washing machine is broken too.

I noticed that some pictures are also resized and resolution drops.
    Most noticeably on screen shots.

Not sure why? Maybe it's just me?
But anytime I take a screen shot on my PC.
It copies the image to the clipboard.
If I hit Ctrl+V it auto uploads on the forum.

It's super clear when it first loads, then it drops the resolution.
Which makes text hard to read. Not that it's a big deal, but it kind of makes it hard when you are uploading diagrams.
As you have to zoom way in to make out the wire color abbreviations.
