I think that was the turbo failures that happened with almost no miles, these bearing failures are happening when the trucks get around 15-20K on them, so they are popping up on a regular basis now that we are in that mileage range for the 2022's. As far as I can ascertain, Toyota hasn't said what the issue is, so they either do not know yet or they don't want to say and hope it stops. Its hard to believe they do not know. My guess would be that they know and there are too many trucks with potential problems on the road to say.

It's kinda hard to wade thru the info with the fan boys always coming to the defense no matter what and derailing any non bias discussion of the issue. I know I have seen too many of them to trust buying one of the trucks, at least for the near future.

There is a guy from the Middle East on the Tundra forum that says the Lexus and Land Cruiser with this engine are having the same issues over there, and Toyota is just as quiet about it, so it probably isn't just a part supplier failure.

There are 23 on that forum but I am not sure if they have been keeping count, some of the info you would need is how many 3rd gen tundra buyers are represented from that forum and use that number for a percentage. Kinda like this forum, only a small fractions of owners are members.

ok then, do the math. I came up with 21....and then went to 100 assuming that 4x would cover those not on the forum. Say it is 1000. What is the percentage of total sold? Still goring to be less than 1%.

I swear I remember the NHSTA opening an investigation into catastrophic engine failures with the 2.7 Ecoboost last year.

I think you might need number of trucks that have reached the target mileage to start narrowing it down a bit more. I think the real information needed would be IF Toyota fixed the issue and when, so you would know what trucks will not be affected. Issues like this are hard as they show up outta the blue with different mileages, it makes it really difficult to pin down how many. The other factor is, if it is a part and design issue and the same parts were put in every truck, not all trucks will fail, but all trucks could under the right conditions and temperature. It's a tough one for sure.

If you just had to have one, I think the safe bet would be to factor in the longest powertrain warranty into the initial cost of the truck and trade it before that mileage was up. Especially considering how expensive the repairs are. I would not touch a used one later on with a ten foot pole. I am curious if this continues what it does anything to the resale value of them.

Exactly this, there are 91k registered members on the Tundra forum, what does that represent as a whole of all owners? 1% (keeping in mind this covers the last 24 years of Tundra)? Less than 1%?

They probably did. The bronco was dropping valves all over the place.

There was something supposedly only effected Broncos, but I think all of the 2.7 are built at Lima.

Thats a good looking truck. Still think the 21-23 Fords are nicely styled.

Nice looking pickup. I was really leaning towards a Ford when I bought my gen3 taco.... I asked both of my neighbors (Ford F150/F250 owners). They both complained about some pretty hefty warranty work that had to be done..both my neighbors can fix damn near anything, so they were both just fed up and they traded their trucks in at about the same time... my one neighbor was complaining that they damn near rebuild the entire lower half of the motor and it was still leaking oil. The other neighbor had water filling up in the driver's side footwell ...

It was enough to scare me away from the Fords and stick with what I knew

Yes because we are discussing the 2.7 which is one of the engines being investigated. I’d say that’s comparable, but it also speaks to fords overall quality at the moment, why so defensive?

I’m saying you chose a poor article to bash another manufacturer. They all have issues Toyota included.

It’s directly relevant to the 2.7 and ford which we were just discussing. Expanding an investigation into over 700,000 vehicles is note worthy. More so than most of the anecdotal evidence we’ve heard on here regarding the tundra. Not denying every manufacture has issue’s, but we are literally talking about engine failures and this is noteworthy. Maybe the NHTSA will open and investigation into the ttv6 if the number get bad enough. 700,000 vehicles is a clear indication that ford understood there was potential issues and failed to remedy them. If you can’t connect the dots to the conversation on this forum you need to work on your critical thinking skills.

Didn't they discontinue the 2.7in the 2024 models anyway?
