Seems like the older trucks only had problems from actual use and the later ones bubbled up from no use. Dumb, lol. Maybe I need to try and buy the older part and just never use the pad - doubt that part is available now though.

Interesting. I'm seriously considering changing mine out to the noncharger version. I'd like more room there.

So I did some digging on this. Since I have a tear in the rubber on mine, I can stick my finger through and feel the warmth of the pad. Pad is plugged in. Switch was off. Drove my 35 minute drive home from work, and my fingers could not sense any perceptible difference in temp from when I started the truck to when I got home. Maybe a little bit, but it was not hot at all. I can’t imagine the temp I felt being anywhere close to hot enough to bubble the rubber. I have a feeling the problem is due to climate and interior truck temp. I think I’m better off just doing the non charger tray and calling it good enough, assuming I can get one. I don’t use that location much anyways, I just want it to not be bubbled.

If I can’t get the older tray then I’ll probably slice the rubber off, cover with a mat and call it done.

Yikes, I pick up my new sport in 3 days. Does anyone have a working charger? I certainly don’t need a wireless charger ( as long as I can still plug it into a usb port to charge) but it sounds like if I don’t use it, it will still bubble at the charging location - do I have this straight???

The charger is very rarely useful. Most of them charge phones absolutely extremely slowly, and heat the phone up a great deal in the process.

But yes, many of us don’t use it at all and they still bubble. That is the case with my truck.

Wow, crazy! I’m a mechanical moron, so maybe I can pay Toyota to take out what I paid for…‍♂️

Maybe, but depends on what you want them to remove. You can do the work yourself easily, there is nothing really mechanical to it. Just pulling one trim panel and undoing 2 bolts and a few Philips screws.

the main thing is figuring out how you want to solve the problem if you have the problem and if you choose a route that requires parts, the parts need to be available.

Rather than hacking up the rubber pad, just pull that assembly out and crazy glue the under side of the rubber pad to the wireless charger. Did it months ago and it's still flat. I never used it anyway.

I'd wondered what the TSB actually replaced since I hadn't read through the actual procedure in the PDF file for it. My truck had the bubbling issue on the pad within the first year of buying (2020) despite me not ever using the pad, so I had it replaced just to make it less annoying to look at. TSB seemed to work on mine as its been 2 years with no issues since despite having parked the truck in many extremely hot days. But I also don't use it either since it charges slowly and makes both the pad and phone very hot, doubly useless since my newer phone has proper fast charging now.

My work truck has no charger, and there's definitely a lot more room in that alcove with the cubby insert over the charge pad, plus having the space for another button in the switch panel below the climate controls. I've considered changing it out on my truck but not really worth the money or effort to me since I don't use the space much to be honest either way.

OK - so I think I got a bit mixed up on the TSB. I mentioned I had the TSB parts because when I pulled my charger out, it had the sticker on it that says 861C0-04010, and that part is mentioned in the TSB. So I thought I had the updated part. Looking closer at the verbiage, and some parts diagrams, it appears 861C0 is the assembly (tray + charger/wiring). It looks like 861C4-04010 is the tray itself, and is the tray you get if the TSB is performed.

    IMG_0415.jpg

What I don’t understand, is why the TSB came out in November 2019, and a 2021 has the issue (actually seemingly more 2020+ have the issue without using the charger, than earlier trucks). I am tempted to buy the 861C4 part for $40 and see if it fixes the problem.

On the flip side, I started thinking about it and I can buy the automatic transmission front console and just use the tray with my existing front console. The front console kit comes with the console half and the tray, so it’s a bit wasteful still, but the trays are all the same. Only the front console itself is different. So I could buy that kit and then discard the front console half. This would get me the non-charger tray version.

So it’s between that and the $40 TSB tray for me. I just wish I knew the $40 TSB tray would actually fix the problem. For all I know, that’s the tray I already have and I’d just be buying more of the same crap. There were no part numbers on my tray, only on the assembly sticker (861C0).

all the TSB does is replace like with like to get through the warranty period. Separate thread on here where people have the new one bubble up too.

Good to know. I just wonder why some people end up lucky, either on their stock one or TSB. I’ll probably stick to the non charger option.

Mine technically "works" but its slow and one of the best ways to unnecessarily heat up the phone

    - I’m pretty sure with my luck, mine won’t work….not working is OK, heating up or bubbling is NOT!

I want to rip mine out and replace with a GMRS radio unit. It is an idea I've had floating around in my head and since I'm about to take apart my dash I'll be able to get a better look at possible mounting options.

Figured I should update my thread. At first, I placed the order for 58810-04020-C0. Then I heard that that part is hard to get and back ordered and possibly not in production anymore. The reason being that I don’t think Toyota makes anymore manual transmission trucks that don’t have the wireless charger.

I did a bit more digging and decided to go with the automatic transmission version of the non wireless charger front console half & tray. The trays themselves are the same across all models (non charger vs charger of course are different), but basically the transmission doesn’t matter for the tray itself. The tray bolts down the same, it’s the front console half that is transmission specific.

O didn’t need the new console half, so I bought the 58810-04010-C0 auto trans non charger version and just moved the tray over to my existing console half.

Overall looks good, and I actually like this pocket. It probably has slightly less usable space than the charger model but I like the depth and angle. It works well as a bin for me to empty my pockets into on a long trip. I keep AirPods, a non truck key ring, and sometimes a wallet in my left pocket which is bulky. Nice to empty my pockets and throw all the crap in that bin. Just used it on a 4 hour road trip yesterday and works well.

Hope this helps anyone looking to delete their bubbly charger. It solves my problem adequately.

@Ttyler3 Id like to see what you do with this area. This seems like the obvious choice for what to put in that slot. I have a Yaesu Ft-7800 I want to mount somewhere for overlanding. the charger is worthless to me and Id like to get the button hole back and put my redarc there because i am OUT of switch mounting holes at the moment (offroad premium here) -NA8Y I would also like to get the auxbeam etsy panel for the left side to make this super neat.
