I am never looking for anything specific, they more find me. They are aging well though. I would like to try a BMW out at some point, they are maintenance nightmares but so are range rovers and Mercedes so obviously I'm not afraid of that. I just am curious how they drive, they tout they are the Ultimate driving machine. That's a big claim lol

They drive nice, aging ones less so but still comfy and relatively cheap. BMW is the first to tell you only the newest ones are "The Ulimate Driving Machine" haha. But I like the way they're structured platform wise, they have a lot of similarities to Toyota in the platform sharing they do between model years and series. But something like an E46 is nothing more than a nice sedan or coupe, nothing ultimate about them.

Just noticing this, but absolutely no bumpstops with a spacer is scary... this thing is a recipe for bending something.

Part of why I like them too is because they age so damn well. They're still such a good looking car all these years later. I don't think I'd bee too bummed about the power if I were to get into one, just make it a nice comfortable daily and it'd be a great road trip car to boot.

That's about all the interest I have in them, nice daily and a good car to run across the mtns in. I don't have much long term trip faith in the corolla. I'd like to dump it on my buddy's property as a backup car for whoever needs it when a project takes to long or whatever. I'm hoping to find a nice E46 330 or 325 xi sedan in white. Manual would be a plus but not a deal breaker and I don't really want a wagon but I'd consider it if it was a 5 series I guess... E39 is on my radar too.

The, "Ultimate," claim is a little long in the tooth. Certainly doesn't apply to something like the new 2 series sedans that are FWD and just...boring.
But there are plenty that are certainly special to drive.
I use to steal my moms e46 convertible whenever I could, that thing was a blast. Never thought I'd like convertibles before I tried that one.

Sounds like a solid plan to me. I always thought an E38 could be cool to drive as a daily, seems cushy.

Yeah I mean if I get an M car I would expect it to be sharp, figure you're run of the mill should still be better than most in terms of steering feels and the occasional corner. I really wish the C63 wagon could be had stateside. I am not a fan of sedans really, wagons seem so much better. More space and not sacrificing terrible driving dynamics like an SUV would.

@Speedytech7 A few times I've gotten on the builder to just spec out my old-man daily sedan version of a 3 if I were to get a new one. Gotta be silver or grey over cognac or beige. One of those kind of cars that nobody notices, its not a thrill machine, its just good and you drive it for a decade and its broken in and its still like eh, yeah, its a 3 series, they just...are.

If it ain't got the Turbo 6 the new 3 series ain't worth the scratch TBH. Get an older one for undercover cruiser status.

An m-wagon would be amazing. I've never owned a sedan. I just naturally gravitate toward wagons or two doors. C63 would be awesome too.

The only M-wagons are ones people have made themselves. BMW M division takes a dim view to hatchbacks and wagons and refuses to build them.

Yeah its more of an exercise in what if. I like that the 3s are one of the few sedans that age well, if I were ever to get one, they'd be top choice.

New M3 Touring is a nice exception to the rule though.

Yeah it's pretty, I have a bad feeling they'll make it one model year and axe it in the states though since wagons don't sell that well here.

Ew the Z3 haha. It's carefully segmented out of being an actual M division car by still using it's Z badging and calling it the M-coupe edition haha. Ugly fucking thing too.
