Transit/ i went by last week and they had at least a 1/2 dozen sitting in their lot right in front of the main drag. The 2022's haven't arrived yet if its those trucks you mean.

Carfax just sent me an email offering $2k more than I paid new in '18. Just when I have it the way I want it. Might be an idea if I wanted to sit on the cash for a couple years until the market comes back to it's senses.

The prices are crazy ! I was looking at prices on line and the new ones are nuts too. I was fortunate to still order a 2021 sport mt sb last month and pay $950 below retail and tell them to stick their $699 charge to write it up. My dealer is one of the few still going by msrp. I couldn't buy a 2020 for the price I paid ! I would have been happy paying retail if I had to.....never thought I'd say that lol

I paid msrp for the first time in my life. But then again first time in my life I made money of a trade. So in my mind that evens out. I think the problem is if you don’t have a trade in and pay msrp. Because of this market I got 3-4K more for my trade than what I would get in normal times but paid msrp for the new one so I think It was the same as getting less for trade in and paying less than msrp.

Sold our 2021 Ranger Tremor w/33k mi for $37k a few weeks ago. Searched for a dealer willing to discount a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 for several weeks. Originally wanted Lunar Rock since the Ranger was Cactus Gray, very similar colors. Dealers wouldn't budge off of MSRP, TSRP or whatever they are calling it these days on Lunar Rock. My wife said she didn't care about the color. Ice Cap was our secondary color. We like white, had it on our 2018 4Runnner TRD OR. Local dealers wouldn't budge off of MSRP, so I found a dealer in Boerne TX, a couple of hours away, that would do $2700 off of MSRP after a little negotiating over the phone. They originally would do $2300. I offered $3k less than MSRP and we agreed to $2700 off. They had a Lunar Rock and an Ice Cap coming in. Still wouldn't budge off of Lunar Rock so Ice Cap it was. No dealer mark-up and no outrageous fees. There are dealers that will discount vehicles. You just gotta search them out. We went through two handfuls of dealers before finding this one. Some would discount from only a few hundred to a couple of thousand. Vic Vaughn in Boerne has the best deal we could find. Don't play their game. If they aren't willing to discount, then move on. Toyota is hurting right now and the dealers are the ones hurting the brand with their mark up and unwillingness to give the consumer a fair deal. The only way to get things back to normal/fair pricing is to negotiate and don't take no for answer or just not pay the prices.

It all depends for how long you're willing to negotiate. I had a similar experience with Vic Vaughn, They were willing to go under msrp. I was negotiating with Cedar Park and they would not budge, one of their team lead even came up to me to tell me "this truck is too much for you" because I was not wiling to pay them 1k more. I left Cedar Park and went to catch a bite, when cedar park called me, they had accepted my offer.

Good you got what you wanted. I wanted to buy from Cedar Park. I purchased our 2018 4Runner there and was hoping to buy our Tacoma there. They had nothing on hand nor any trucks inbound soon (at the time). Didn't sound like they would do thousands off of MSRP anyhow.

I think folks just need to negotiate as much as they can before going into any dealership. Get as much as you can in writing, email, text, etc before going in on a negotiated price. Know the fees before as well and know what your credit will get you if financing. Again, there are dealers that will discount. Just save yourself some hassle before going in. Hope everyone gets some sort of discount off of MSRP. Do your due diligence.

Once the 2024 is out 3rd gen prices will dive not go up as people are claiming. Who is going to want a underpowered early 2000’s tech gas guzzling v6 compared to the 2024 drivetrain? I’m not talking about Tacoma enthusiasts but the average truck buyer

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I agree with this. And, people who aren't car/truck enthusiasts usually will appreciate the updated tech the new gen will come with.

This is based off interactions I had with non-car enthusiasts.

They won’t dive because the new truck is going to be 20% more expensive than the current pos. This is the cheapest midsize truck around which is why it’s selling so well

Just my opinion but I’m thinking that if someone is shopping for a truck and test drives a 3rd gen and a 4th gen they might be willing to pay more. Personally I have no problem with my trucks power, trans etc but the Ranger for example is less frustrating to drive

I think you're right although I like my 2022 OR enough not to care. Isn't the 4th gens capability close to the 3rd gens on paper? I think we need some drivers reviews and real world mpg, towing, feel etc before we know where 3rd gen resale is headed.

Yes for sure, however price is important… Tacoma customer doesn’t necessarily want a gilded beast

I paid 40k CAD out the door for my ‘18 OR, new with bed mat, tonneau and dash cam. It currently has 108k km and I was recently offered a $43k trade in value towards a Tundra. Pretty wild.

This, and take a look at used 2.5 gen Tundras compared to the new one, they maintained crazy value, and let's be real the 4th gen will cost more and likely have issues first few years. A clean well maintained newer 3rd gen will fetch a penny. I was here for the 3rd gen and 2015's didnt tank. It's always the dealer or new gen fanboys who try to convince otherwise.

Completely agree, they will hold their value just like the prior model generations. Look at the first gens, they have actually gone up and up, second gens with 100k miles selling close to their original msrp.
