These trucks don’t make enough power to break down the oil that quick. 10k between changes is fine.

forced induction is another story tho, if your motor regularly sees boost 5k seems more realistic

Another oil check tip: Check oil level before starting after it been sitting a while...

Check the first draw. The tube is curved and you'll pull oil up the tube at each draw, which will confuse readings once oil is in the tube.

Oil color is pretty much irrelevant. It could be black and still be good (think diesel engines). Just means the oil is doing its job keeping microfine contaminants (ones not caught by the filter) in suspension. Only real way to know what's going on is an oil analysis. However, don't do one too early as the metals will be high from breaking in. Probably after 15-20K the wear in metals will settle. I change mine every 5K just because I'm a weirdo and like changing oil... :anonymous:

Oil from a gas engine turns dark because of soot buildup from the detonation cycle. Soot is too fine a particle to filter out, so the only way to get rid of it is to change the oil. If too much soot accumulates, it becomes sludge.

I have, same for our 112k mile prius that doesn't touch a drop of oil.....even been recommended by the napa shop here doing the oil changes. They have Toyotas with 250k miles running fine with 10k synthetic oil changes. I think just from seeing how fresh synthetic oil can cause a lot of blow-by in new engines, along with power loss, no way would I change the oil too early in these engines unless I saw metal in the oil filter first.

How many folks gonna have engine glitter because they sanded their dipstick and didn't clean it before sticking it back in.

Remember kids, always always always, clean your dipstick before you stick it in any holes. Don't go rubbing on it and just sticking it right back in without wiping.. Thats how you give your truck an STD (sanded truck dust).

While you’re sanding the area between the dots, check the tip. Mine was rough to insert and remove. Upon inspection it appeared to have been beveled with a hack saw. Smoothed and rounded it, now it glides in/out of the tube without binding

New engines have to break-in. metal moving over metal polishing each surface and removing metal along the way. This negates the BS manufactures push "the engine is flushed after assembly". Yes that deals with contamination, but not Break-in. The oil in a new engine will have metal in it, the filter will pick up the larger fragments, but the fine particles will still be floating around. First oil change should be done at 1k. But people know know nothing about engines, I'd like to see some of you set valve lash on a solid lifter big block. This is basic knowledge.

Skip to 26:50 and you'll see.

Toyota runs all their engines on a test cycle, then drains and refills them prior to installation. That's good for me.

Watch the video. Test run is not break-in. All new engines produce a fair amount of glitter, lol.

WTF. Read through this to add something I did and we are talking oil change intervals again? FML.

Anyhoo I heated mine up with a torch and gave it that nice blue color. Easy to read now.

I took my dipstick out and oil cap off, oil needs to breathe and get that good old O2 to cycle out those bad carbon emissions.

Will blackstone pay yourengine bill if their is ever a failure?
Dimwit people fail to understand low tension oil control rings and the mess caused by not changing oil frequently

Nope. Will Mobil1 pay yours when it fails after changing it every 5K? Look in the sticky section. Many failures and zero because of oil change frequency.

Toyota will pay for your engine bill (assuming in warranty of course) if there is ever a failure, using 10k intervals. That says enough for me.
