Hey guys. So i just bought a 2016 sr 4x4 tacoma with 186k from the auction and it has cylinders 1,3,5 along with random misfire codes. I changed all 6 spark plugs because they were full of carbon . The problem was still there so I swapped coils from one side to the other and it was still the same . The truck starts and idles fine for around 20 seconds but then it gets really rough. What other things can cause those type of codes? I want to see if i can fix it my self before taking it to a mecanic. Note: the truck was a farm vehicle and engine bay was full of dirt

I have one at the shop with this, what specific codes are they? P0301 or P0351?

Mine is caused by a coil that has shorted out and its taking the entire bank out.

P0301 is a misfire, p0351 is a coil circuit issue, and you need to take the coil out of the circuit to fix the issue.

Oh boy......Before you throw ANY more money at it, you should do a compression and leak down test. That don't sound good and especially coming from an auction.

Yep. I hear misfire with this truck and I think burnt valves…

    Also could be ACIS flap.

So the p0172 & p0175 I believe are rich fuel trim codes, explains the carbon on the plugs. Compression test wouldn't hurt. Was there any work recently done on it you're aware of?

The only thing i saw they did was engine oil and air filter change . Everything is full of dirt so it doesn't look like they worked on it. Also i saw a list of the same company selling a few other vehicles along with a caterpillar so idk if they just got rid of a bundle of damaged cars. But i will go ahead and try the compression test.

O2 sensor stuck lean or rich could cause one bank to misfire.
Clear the code, start it and watch LTFT and STFT compared to the other bank.
    Watch sensor 1/1 and 2/1

1/2 and 2/2 are cat monitor sensors.

Update on tacoma. Im already tired of it. I did compression test and they had like 180 psi. I took it to the mecanic but they didn't find the problem. I hired two guys to do a diagnostic and first one just took a guess. Second one said it was going to be injectors because i told him i had tried everything else. Basically he just looked at the codes and didn't even turn on truck. So the codes i have are I have p0300,P0301,p0303,p0305,p0172, and p0175 . I have another tacoma with interchangeable parts so i swaped from one to another the coils, maf sensor, throttle body, crankshaft position sensor, and it didn't change anything, and my truck ran fine. Also checked the flaping thing on the back of intake manifold, and did oil and filter change. So last thing i have done was tring another ecm and its still the same. Today i was comparing live data between both tacomas and found that the fuel rail pressure a is around 439 psi and stays around there and the fuel rail pressure be was at 69.9 psi but then i did another test a lil later it had gone down to normal 43.5 psi. In other hand My perfectly working trucks rail pressure a went from 1000 psi up to more than 3k psi with normal rail pressure b of 43.5 psi . Does someone have an idea of what could be the problem? Could it be the injectors stucked open? When i removed the manifold I cranked the engine and the port injectors were spraying normal. I do not know about the direct injection ones.

Just curios, was this going to be a quick flip or did you plan to keep it for personal use?
