Back in the day I knew those who only changed the filter, added new oil to fill and considered oil to be only dirty and not worn out.

Yes, Toyota has an army of data analysts making sure the powertrain warranty expires before engine failure for 99.999% of trucks. In industry jargon it's "design for six sigma".

You could probably change the oil twice in the 60k warranty period and have no issues. if not having the engine go out in that period is good enough for you then do whatever you want. :)

Well, they should probably all be fired then because they're absolute cheeks at their job.. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of trucks on the road using 10k intervals with perfectly working engines outside of the warranty period is unacceptableo_O

You've obviously never had any experience trying to get a warranty claim approved. They will give you every excuse to not cover your engine and will blame the failure on you. Wow people are so gullible and naive.

They're not going to cover your warranty claim BECAUSE you followed their recommended service intervals? What's the point of even including a warranty if that's the case? Absolute nonsense. :der:

Have you ever first hand seen the inside of a neglected engine? 10k oil change intervals are a complete joke. You have 0 clue what you're talking about. These long oil change intervals are the #1 cause of premature engine failure. The main thing I've seen is the low retention rings seizing in the ringland, and blocking the drain back holes. The holes get filled with carbon and oil coaking. This causes the ring to eat away at the cylinder bore, in turn that cylinder looses compression and you start burning oil. Toyota's are notoriously bad for this. You can lead a horse to water, but what do I know.

The extended oil change intervals is marketing BS

Because the failure more times than not, is a result of something the owner did or didn't do.. why the hell wouldn't they investigate it? We're having two different conversations here - engine failure via owner's fault vs engine failure via OCI. You missed the point entirely, and just took an opportunity to try and belittle someone else; use your noodle. An engine within warranty period that fails (not by fault of owner) gets fixed on Toyota's dime, whether 5k or 10k intervals. Its how the warranty works, and is common knowledge. Guess some people are too gullible and naive.

I have had several warranty claims approved by Toyota over the years. Maybe I don't think of it as an "Us vs Them" mentality like many do. I also don't have a chip on my shoulder from past experiences. My last warranty claim approved by Toyota was a 2018 Highlander transmission. It failed at 45K miles on vacation. I took it to the local dealer at the beach, a long way from my dealer, they checked it, approved warranty and gave me a loaner Highlander to use on vacation. Took them three days.
Wow, I guess having experiences like that should make me re-think buying a Toyota.

Lol like I said it's clear you've never been down this road, and have never worked in the automotive industry. Deny deny deny, blame the operator. The only time I've see an engine coverd is where there's an obvious manufacturing defect. Things that can't be proven on the manufacturer will 100% be blamed on the customer, from bad fuel, to you drove it too hard before it was warmed up. What do you think these tracking apps are for? fast acceleration hard braking, hard cornering. It's all about plausible deniability. Welcome to the real world son.

Hey @Bishop84, what do you see up in your shop regarding 10K OCI?

Cool. You're absolutely entitled to your own opinions based off your own experience. Your experience vs my experience holds no weight here. How representative is your sample size of experiences to the entire population of trucks using a 10k OCI? Thats kinda the point. You can assume I've never popped a hood before, never dealt with a warranty claim, and I could argue until I'm blue in the face about how I have. The conclusion is it doesn't change anything because we choose to disagree anyways. Its how the world works; its okay..

I also never said 10k OCI doesn't lead to premature wear and tear. My opinion is, if hundreds of thousands of people get their trucks to 2-300k miles using 10k intervals, I'm happy with those numbers. The inconvenience of time and resources to double that interval to potentially have it last longer isn't worth it (to me). In reality, statistics say I'm more than likely to total the truck in a wreck before blowing an engine using 10k intervals. This is no way means others have to do the same. Maybe your job field tells you to follow your experiences; maybe my job field tells me to make every decision a statistic. Or maybe I rebuild engines on the side every weekend. Guess it still doesn't matter though.

Dude, you have the wrong attitude man. Have I ever been burned? Yep. But the times I have been happy are a lot more than the times I have been sad. Pessimism never wins.

Now thats something you don't hear everyday :anonymous:. Almost like waves of trucks blowing up because the oil made it to 5,001 miles.

I always use olive oil. Studies consistently show it’s far better for you.

Wait, this is just yet another endless oil change debate?
