I spoke with Cooper this morning, both the Cooper STT Maxx and the STT pro (at least for the few sizes I checked) are still showing as in production and a few sizes have plenty available. Unfortunately I cannot speak for every size but I am happy to check availability if someone is looking, feel free to shoot us a pm and im happy to look.

@Hilborn If we may ask, which sizes were you seeing on our site as discontinued?

I know it said they were Discontinued this morning when I looked them up. Now it shows they are stocked like normal. Stop playing with my emotions.

It's possible something got miss labeled and then corrected. For now I think we are safe and we should be able to get both of these tires for a while.

If you would like us to double check a specific size feel free to shoot us a PM we can confirm they are still available and in production.

Im getting ready to order these tires (255/85/r16) and I need to know, how good is the deep snow, ice traction? I will be driving on lakes alot this winter for ice fishing and getting up and down the boat ramps can be hard when they are iced over or covered in snow.

I’ve got that size on my truck - and I just put on my Blizzaks for the year if that tells you anything. Great tire, just not for MN winters.

Deep snow out in the woods they’ll do great. Winters on the road out here they’re not the tire you want on the truck. A couple years I was a little late getting the Blizzaks on and I’ve since made a point to never let that happen again.

Have you looked at other ATs that are 3PMS rated if you just want a one-and-done tire? After these Coopers wear out I’m going to try the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT. They don’t come in 255/85/16 but they do run 255/80/17 and 285/75/16 to get the full 33”….and they have 3PMS unlike the ST Maxx. Cooper makes Mickey Thompson, so there’s a confidence factor there too. I’ll still run winters though (gonna try Hakkas).

    my 2c

The vast majority of my driving is either clear roads with no snow, or on a lake/deep snow trail for fishing. I was going to go with snows, but I just dont do enough onroad snow driving to deal with the wear. My wifes truck has snows (but thats because she is a bad driver). I had snows on my rav4, snows on my awd BMW, and they were all great considering good traction tires were very limited for those cars.

My other options were the geolander mt g003 tires. I liked that they are 8lbs lighter then the coopers, and they have a slightly better snow rating. But the tread being more aggressive im not sure if my on road driving is going to suffer

Could you get away with a different light Cooper? Like the AT3 4S? Don’t remember what 33 sizes those come in. If not, I’d pick anything with a better snow rating than the ST Maxx. They harden up quick below freezing.

I've ran these tires in this size for the past few years, year around and live at 9600 ft in the mountains, we have snow on the ground probably 6 months a year. They do great in deep snow and fresh snow but are terrible on ice and OK on hard packed snow. I just drive a little extra careful when stopping on ice, that's the only time I ever wish I had dedicated snow tires. You didn't ask about summer but they kill it in mud and 4 wheeling. I'd like to say I've never had a flat on em which I hadn't but got a nail in one literally yesterday! They are pretty quite the first 10-15000 miles but continue to get louder as they age if that stuff bothers you, I don't mind the noise:notsure: my lady is from Minnesota and I've driven them up there a couple times during winter and didn't have any problems FWIW:thumbsup: I agree with @doublethebass, not the best tires for MN winters, I make them work but hardly get above 50 mph where I live/work

I have used a ST Maxx 285/70-17 on my Tacoma since July 2018. In that amount of time I have driven cross country several times, overlanded in Capitol Reef, ran Black Bear, Imogene, Ophir, Engineer in Ouray/Telluride and even completed Top of The World in Moab this last April after all the Jeeps beat the hell out of it during Easter Jeep Safari. I have taken hits to the side walls without experiencing a flat. I have gotten even wear due to that I have them rebalanced yearly, rotate every 5k and keep the pressures in their sweet spot when on highway. I have looked at other tires that manufacturers like Falken and Toyo have released under the Rugged destination. After doing my research, I can honestly say those tires are not as good as the ST Maxx. The 285/70-17 weight 60 lbs. Toyo's weight 56 lbs. Falken's weight 65 lbs. Neither have 3 ply side walls. I have even been tempted to go to the STT Pros and I can say that move would be pointless. I would be giving up a lot of my on road comfort for a small increase in mud traction. The mud traction on the ST Maxx isn't as good as the STT Pros but for what I do and what I have done. I believe they are as good as we are going to get to a perfect overland tire on today's market. Just my 2 cents.

I Could not agree more! I have been nothing but happy with mine. I'm running 275's. I did a bunch of research ahead of time and everything lead me to the ST Maxx's. I rotate mine around every 5k miles as well and they have held up very well.

Hey all. I’m looking for some input from those of you who have run the St Maxx’s for a while. My Grabber ATXs are getting towards the end of their life and after a ton of research the ST Maxx’s are at the top of my list.

My question…My use case is a lot of highway miles (like 30K a year) with a pretty good amount of dirt and gravel trails mixed in…Would you all recommend the ST Maxx for that type of driving?

I know they’re fantastic off road. I’m a little concerned based on the mixed on-road reviews. I’d say my split is 70% on road, 30% off road. I do need an E rated tire based on the type of trails I do. My grabbers are E rated and have saved my bacon more than once.

And your name is ROAD Warrior?? If you really drive 30% off-road then you are in the 0.1% of members here and are asking in the wrong place. Most of us here should just be on road tires lmao!

Now with that stated, I have the ST Maxx and like them, but I’m not gonna pretend I am truly off-road 30% of the time :)

lol it’s just an estimate! I drive all over the US and Canada and do a bunch of trails in the middle of all those trips so it changes from month to month. I live in Maryland but I’m actually in Canada at the moment. The truck and I also went to Montana earlier in the year. Just a couple examples.

    I appreciate the input!
