Honestly the 4th gen looks nice but I bought a taco so I could run it myself until the wheels fall off. No reason to upgrade

Only thing making me crazy are these amateur iPhone snapshots of obnoxious trims and colors of pre production builds at promotion events. Most make the Tacoma look like shit. Especially the interior.

Nope, Toyota still sorting out issues with the Tundra including a wave of engine failures. These are becoming a daily occurence in the Tundra groups, would be kidding yourself the all new Tacoma wont have some growing issues. These are not the same stupid little issues the 3rd gen had at rollout.

I'm waiting for the 2024 and I'm pretty certain it will be my next truck if my current truck makes it that long. I have no brand loyalty whatsoever. I've mostly bought Chevy trucks because I get a family discount, but I did buy one Nissan Frontier. With the small trucks I've found it's generally beneficial to buy the first year of a complete redesign. Regardless of the manufacturer, the complete redesigns usually leapfrog everything before them in many areas, and then the others eventually catch up. I bought the 2016 Chevy Colorado which was the first year of a complete overhaul and it was by far the best truck I've ever owned. I'm at 178K on the truck now and have not had a single issue with it.

Why am I likely switching to the 2024 Toyota...because GM went the wrong direction with the 2023 and 2024 models and I can't wait any longer, and Toyota is doing everything right with the redesign in my opinion. My Chevy was rated for something like 25/19, and at the time I was thrilled to get that. I've had 50 mile averages of 29mpg and with a lot of city and off-road driving, my average for the life of the vehicle is around 20.5mpg. But I still want better gas mileage. I'm sick of small trucks always getting bigger and more powerful and gas mileage barely improving if at all. Most truck manufacturers cater to the kind of guy that wants a loud truck, a truck that looks tough, a truck they can brag about the horsepower and torque, etc. It's idiotic. The number of small truck buyers that are actually spending much time off-road in their trucks, towing max loads, hauling max loads, etc. is tiny, it's all an image thing. I want a small truck that is actually small, that is relatively inexpensive, that I can off-road in but also handles decent on the road, that gets good gas mileage, and that can handle hauling small stuff...a load of mulch/gravel/dirt, kayaks, canoes, tow a small boat...any small truck can do that stuff.

I've wondered for so long why no one was building a hybrid, and it shocked me when manufacturers seemed to jump from gas to full electric, and bypassed the hybrids altogether. I guess electric makes sense for those who live in a city and don't really use a truck like a truck, but for me hybrid is the best of both worlds. I was thrilled to see Toyota offering a hybrid, and they've been doing the tech for so long that I have no qualms about the 2024 Tacoma being the first hybrid small truck. If I even get 25mpg combined out of a Tacoma I'd be thrilled, let alone if it gets closer to 30.

Other things I'm appreciating already include the number of models and at least the early indications of price points. Chevy has really gone the other direction with offering fewer options, and everything in outrageously expensive packages. Worst of all, when Chevy went from the 6 cyl to the turbo 4, gas mileage actually went down and the ratings on the trucks are around 21/17 now. No way in h*** I'm buying a small truck in 2024 that gets that bad of gas mileage. I see multiple 24 Tacomas that I could potentially go with, but based on what I expect, the most likely balance for me will be the TRD Off Road. The Trailhunter and up will likely give up some in gas mileage and are overkill for my use. I'd love to see the TRD Off Road in the XtraCab and 6 foot bed, but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen. I'll "settle" for the DoubleCab to get 4WD and the hybrid engine. Lots of other stuff I'm looking forward to in the Off Road trim, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be outrageously priced.

I will look at the Gen4 in 10-12 years, when I sell my 2022 to my son (he will have wrecked his first/second cars by then, so Taco should not be harmed by him).

By then all the gremlins should have been exercised out of Gen4. Having owned a 2005 DC TRD OR Taco, I will never buy a 1 or 2nd year model. My 2005 had issues with the collapsing tailgate, rear suspension, temperature cluster.

That's why I chose the 2022 model. Got great, below the MSRP price, and all the features and more than I wanted. I am OK driving it for the next 12 years. Have not broken 10K on it, and have had it for almost 2 years (4 cars, 2 drivers in the family).

I think I'm already disappointed with the 4th gen. Haven't seen one move yet.

Yep, and these are Tundras, which don't get wheeled hard. When people start beating on the 4th gen on trails, other faults will be exposed. For example, I wonder how long the electric rack will live submerged in mud on a regular basis. Same with the electric parking brake actuator. As an off-road rig, 4th gen will take a more work and money to get to the same level as a 3rd gen: the fuel tank sits 3" lower in compromise to a lower cabin floor. The spare tire hangs a couple of inches lower due to the shorter overhang.

I just kinda watch it all in the background honestly.
When stuff pops up in my feed, I get a little excited.

Just picked up my wife a 2023 Highlander - and I assume some of the features in the 2024 Tacoma are going to be similar.
It does have a slew of decent features that I'd be interested in having.
It has (what I think) is the same engine just transversely mounted (probably some differences, but guessing it's the same thing at its core).
Feels like it has plenty of power.

I think that the first wave will be hard to come by and overpriced.
I'd wait probably until the 2025 model year...but i'm in a good position because I love my 2023 3rd gen anyway.

I’m not going crazy. But I am getting a little antsy. I need a new vehicle and I am resisting the urge to jump on a 2023…or even a Tundra… my 2012 Jeep is still going strong but it’s starting to give me little problems… all the warning lights have been coming on intermittently and it’s driving me crazy. Itching for a new truck bad… lol

As many others said, it's good practice to stay away from newly redesigned vehicles... I'd take it a step further and say stay away from new gen anything (cars, phones, tech, etc). We are the beta testers pretty much. Personally, I would get a Gen4 Pro (just not the 24) and one that has red Type-R seats and tacky crap they threw in. I mean wtf are we a Jap spec Honda or a truck here Toyota? I'll trade up in prob 26 or so after the 1st revisions are made but certainly a hard pass on 1st entry.

This is why I’ve been stuck on the iPhone 11 since 2019. Every time Apple releases a new model, I wait for the second year and they replace it again!
