Soooo 2018 to 2023, I'll give them 5 whole years as they could have gotten in 2017. 5 years x 365 days in a year = 1825 days of ownership in a rough estimate..... 787,000 divided by that 1825 is 431 miles a day.. give those miles an average speed of 65 mph to be kind and that's 6.6 hours of driving per day for 1825 straight days......

Even if they spent most of their driving cruising at 80mph that's still 5.3 hours per day of driving..... and if you take out weekends, it's 603 miles per week day....

Yeah i already did the math on that one. I'm betting it was either a delivery truck or an escort car. Might have had more that one driver a day though.

When you put it that way, it sounds absolutely miserable...
If you describe it as 1 weekly round trip from Birmingham, AL to Phoenix, AZ, it still sounds miserable...

    I’m assuming it’s a 2.7? Either way that’s insane.

hopefully not. I couldn't imagine putting nearly a million miles on something with little over half the balls of the v6 :anonymous:

I have 2016 TRD Sport DCLB with the V6 and advanced tech package in Inferno. I bought it used in Jan. 2019 with only 22k on it and CPO. Roughly 120 miles a day for work. I'm at 181,000. In the summer I eek out 22mpg at 75 mph. Drops to 17.8 during winter same speed.

I do nearly all my own maintenance and I'm diligent about oil changes, tire rotations, greasing the driveshaft, and other general maintenance. Also did the reccomended spark plug change at 100k.

So far I've had several issues.

-2020: Blindspot monitors failed a year in. Techs say they got knocked around. Unless someone backed into my truck in a parking lot when I wasn't there, not sure how thst happened. But at nearly $2000, I'm okay turning my neck.

-2021: Heated seat amp under driver's side seat burnt out. Literally. It was black and the plastic was somewhat melted. Toyota said it's not their fault and it would be $450 to replace. So my butt goes cold.

-2021: Sideview mirror knob broke off and it's $295 to replace. Thankfully my mirrors were already where I need them. Not paying it.

-2022 (March): At 125,000 miles 16 year old kid turned into me in a Silvarado and smashed my front left. Cop and insurance sided with me and fixed it. Took a month.

-2022 (May): At 135,000 miles my truck began sputtering and misfiring. Not sure if it was a tank of bad gas or what. After pulling the gastank, refueling, checking plugs and coils, and using Seafoam, I took it in for diagnostic. 3rd party garage said fuel injectors. They replaced all 6 and it worked ine for a day. Acted up again. Took it to Toyota. Turns out the V6 has TWO sets of injectors (port and direct) and the morons at the 3rd party garage replaced the ports which never fail. All told it was $1,800 for first morons to replace perfect ports and $2,400 for Toyota to correctly replace direct injectors. Overall lost 2 months with it.

-2022 (July): Check engine (and you fine folks) reveals driver side catalytic converter (yep, there's two) was damaged by the raw fuel dump from the misfires. $469 for replacement, and couldn't use my cruise control until Dec. of 2023 because I bought a house that needed renovated and the converter wasn't affecting my ability to drive it.

-2022 (August): Tire pressure sensors cease working.

-2022 (November): Hit deer. Whole front end smashed. Limped home but undrivable. Because of supply chain issues truck wasn't repaired until end of Jan. 2023.

-2023 (August): Truck begins sputtering on and off and flashing check engine but issue disappears upon restart. Notice vibration at higher speeds. Eventually sputtering grows more frequent. Eventually limped to garage and on the way the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree right after the oil pressure light came on. Took to Toyota. They swapped the coil locations for $25 and the truck never had another issue (yet).

-2023 (November): Replaced tire pressur sensors x2. Worked for a week. Then truck returned to not being able to report TPMS figures.

-2023 (December) finally replaced catalytic converter on driver's side. Check engine light finally off for first time in 1.5 years and I can use cruise control for my 60 mile commute.

Still considering fixing heated seats, upgrading to leather viat katzkin, replacing head unit for Android auto, undercarriage coating, and finally getting blindspot fixed. I want to make this a 500k truck and despite my frustrations I feel like with the current pricing of the used and new car markets I'm better off just sticking with it. Thoughts?

Unfortunately these things do happen. Owning any vehicle is like dumping money in a big black hole. Some more than others. Sometimes you really have to know when to cut your losses. Some of those issues you have had are common. Thankfully you haven’t had any catastrophic failures.

If it was me I’d keep it as I’d know what I have. Both of my prior vehicles I kept for 14 years. Nothing catastrophic. Just regular maintenance. At the end of the day sometimes you just get lucky. Getting to 500k will not be cheap. YMMV

Just over 3 years in on my 2020 and only one drivers side centre cap that failed. Replaced just before warranty ran out.

What do you think about doing upgrades to it at thus point? Worth it? I've always wanted leather because it cleans easy and when I bought it there was a salt-like stain across both seats that no amount of shampooing has gotten rid of. Also I really miss having Android Auto and would almost sacrifice some features to have it. Blindspot feels like a luxury repair if I had tons of needless cash laying around, which I don't.

There is a thread on here on how to economically fix the heated seats yourself. I would definitely consider the seat covers, undercarriage coating done by yourself and possibly the head unit. Lots of info here on that head unit swap. Blindspot would be low on the priority list to have fixed. I would continue to keep it thoroughly maintained. Also keep a contingency fund for future repairs.

Your truck is coming on up on 200k. I think you start to get into that territory of some possible bigger repairs. Hence the contingency fund. Or, If you can do those types of repairs yourself then it’s cheaper and easier to keep a vehicle longer.

Personally, I have no time, tools or space so I have to have someone do all the maintenance and repairs. I have a trusted mechanic and a decent dealership nearby. Also eyeballing a fairly new Tacoma specialty shop not far away.

So, that becomes that fine line of dump it and move on or pay someone to fix it when required as long as it’s not catastrophic and continue to drive it. Hope good preventative maintenance does its job by keeping big repair bills away and some plain old luck.

I would just just buy the Toyota 100k extended warranty. It's like 2 grand.

It seams that the frequency of these leaks was greatly reduced with the '20 update. My '21 is at 127k right now and the only bolts that have ever been turned on it are lug nuts and drain plugs. Still on the original brakes and the engine is bone dry on the outside.
