No e start. I only picked it up a few months ago, it's always been a bit of a bitch to kick start to me. At first I thought it was just my unfamiliarity with dirtbikes/kickstarts and i wasn't committing hard enough. But after a couple outings and letting a friend and the guy who works on it try, both said it seems something is off for it to take that many kicks.

Picked it up with 57 hours on it (thanks again for letting me borrow that tuner lol). As far as I can tell it's bone stock minus an aftermarket brake pedal.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Love the Kendas!

I literally cannot rebuild these masters with the little rubber seals without fucking it up every single time.

    Thats right!

Does it have a small battery on the bike? Reason I ask, if it does NOT, its probably similar to my WR450 when you try and start without a battery. You gotta kick like 2-3x to charge the large capacitator enough that it has enough stored juice to run the EFI system.

Also does your bike have the "choke" knob on the throttle body. (Its really a high idle) Make sure you adjust the idle speed properly via turning that knob vs pulling it out for cold start.

To my knowledge it doesn't have a battery. Yeah the guy who works on it, and a fellow buddy who's big into MX, both clued me in on the priming kicks to set it up for an easier start.

it does have the "choke" (high idle) knob on the throttle body as well...and full disclosure I'm enough of a noob I didn't know that it needed to be pulled out for cold starts which I'm sure made it worse for me. But the guy this morning also tried kicking it over with the knob pulled out and still had some issues, he said that shouldn't make enough of a difference to need that many more kicks.

Oh my WR450 is a BEAR to start cold without that knob pulled out, sounds like your bike is no different and running normal.

Hopefully that's all it was and maybe it was just being difficult this morning lol.

He seemed to think otherwise when he was starting it with the knob pulled out though, I'm gonna let him look over it just for peace of mind. I'll keep you posted lol. Might just have to start doing legs again to make up for it.

were either of you twisting the throttle ANY while kicking? That from what I have found will only make things worse (unless you are cranking / kicking at WOT to clear the cylinder and get fresh air in there after stalling etc)

What you are describing has been exactly what I have had for the last 9 yrs of ownership of my WR450. It is sometimes a bit of a bitch to start. Changing the "CO" setting to richen up the idle mixture (via another handheld tool that I have - if you wanna talk shop on that hit me up in a PM) has helped some but its just a quirk of the bike at this point that I have figured out the lil changes I need to make to starting procedure to get it to fire easier everytime.

Outside of that quirk, its been the best dirtbike I have ever owned.

I quickly discovered twisting the throttle while kicking doesn't help one bit, and sometimes results in the kickstart lever snapping back explosively lol. So no I haven't been twisting the throttle since the first couple days I bought it while kicking over.

I did notice he did so a couple times as he was kicking, not every kick though.

When I say "a bitch to kick over", i mean on cold starts i'm spending like 1-2 minutes constantly trying to kick it over with minimal breaks in between. Not like 5-10 kicks lol. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be and you're entirely correct but having had several people tell me it seems like there might be a problem has me spooked lol.

he's already got it anyways to replace the clutch adjuster as I don't have the tools to do so (cue laziness to buy an EZ-out set). I'm about to leave work but i'll shoot you a PM tonight or tomorrow about that tool you mentioned!

Oh yeah... no never more than 5-10 kicks when its being a pain on my WR450. Hit me up with a PM and we can further discuss things there rather than continue to clutter this thread with our banter haha.

This is the BS thread. Banter is what it's for. Besides, it might help some other lost soul who stumbles upon it later.

@TacoTyusday You mentioned it sat for quite some time. Its highly possible that the fuel injector is a bit clogged, and during starting when fuel pressure is low / efi system stability is not great cus you are kicking and voltage will be low makes for HARD starting. Once running and voltage is full tilt from the starter (as is fuel pressure) then the slight gummed up fuel injector isnt an issue.

Id be inclined to do a tank or two double treated with some Redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner (it has the highest concentration of PEA which will remove fuel gummed up deposits).

Also does anyone know the name / source for connectors that would plug into this. I wanna try an experiment but need to make an extension harness so I need a male and female plug to plug into this intake air temp sensor. (2 pin)

If i could set the bike on fire, roll it off a cliff, empty a magazine into it, and then snap my fingers to revert all of that, I would. In fact, i’d probably do it 3x, just for good measure.

    No no!

It deserves better. I'll take it off your hands haha.

But for real. Those master cylinder seals are a bitch. Fine picks to help guide them down the bore is key.
