    Also. Make a Kids day.

Leaving the store about to pop my helmet on, saw a kid and his Dad walking in, kid EYEING the super tenere with glee.

Popped helmet on, started up rode over next to them, stopped and went, Hey if its cool with your dad wanna give the bike some gas? (making sure it was OK with the Dad, dad was ALL for it!)

Kid knew exactly what to do! Put the Super Tenere on the limiter with the perfect back to back 2-3 second WOT blips.

    MADE. MY. DAY!

I enjoyed this beautiful Fall day out riding here in WV. On my way back I stopped at a buddy's house. He gave me a quick tour of the back of his property. I couldn't believe all the old stuff this guy has scattered on his property. Most of the out buildings were unaccessible because they were barricaded with junk or covered with thick brush. There was ALOT more than what i posted pics of. He also has 8 tractor trailers full of motorcycles, dirtbikes ect... Unfortunately according to him nothing is for sale, but his wife said she wants it all gone.

If it makes you feel better, my first bike, a 73 Norton 850, the previous owner removed the choke for some reason. I had no idea about anything. That fuckin bike was impossible to start, it would break your leg if you weren't careful, or launch your ass over the bars

Today was a brutal ride. I decided to go for the Iron Butt Saddle Sore ride again, but within the state borders to get the In-State patch (California has its own patch too).

This was the route I took:

    upload_2023-10-5_0-57-6.png

1,105 miles. I started the clock at 3:55 AM at the first gas station and finally got back at 11:45 PM. I knew it would take longer as it's a longer ride than what I did last time, as well as having some twisty roads, but the twisties were full of traffic and construction. I also had to lane split quite a bit on the way down to Bakersfield on 99 (not what I wanted to do after 600+ miles of riding already).

This is how bad traffic was:

Nice job! You don't want all your rides to be simple now do you? Challenges like that are what make those certificates mean something. I've been looking at doing the Ride around PA Saddlesore but at this point in the year will wait for next Spring or early Summer. Congrats on another IBA ride!

    That's awesome!

A couple of years back a long distance rider I know told me something that he does and I found it really cool. He buys a couple of cheap Hot Wheels motorcycles and keeps them in his tankbag. If stuck in traffic and he sees a kid in a car looking bored AF he rolls up close and get the attention of the kid's parent then with permission gives the kid one of the toy motorcycles from his bag. My fiancee thought it was a great idea so she went on Amazon and bought a whole case of toy motorcycles and we now carry a few with us all the time. It's been great fun cheering up some little kid who's down or miserable by giving them a toy to play with and usually the parents are grateful as well.

Those little lipped seals are a PITA because you must be real careful not to cut that lip on the way in. I work for a hydraulic cylinder repair shop and what our guys do, and we're talking MUCH larger seals, is take some thick paper and a worm drive clamp and wrap them around the seal to compress that lip then use that set up like a piston ring compressor and that helps get the seal into the bore without damage. Use something to lubricate it too so it doesn't tear. We use STP oil treatment here as an assembly lube. It's compatible with hydraulic oil and the small amount required shouldn't cause an issue even in a brake master cylinder.

    Oh, you're definitely in!

Consider sending your seat to Seth Laam of Laam Custom Seats. He did mine and it was worth every penny. One of the best things I've done to the bike to make it more comfortable.

    minor tweaks
Timing being off isn't a fairly common problem, in fact it almost unheard of on a modern motorcycle with electronic ignition. The ignition timing is not even adjustable on the OPs bike as well as almost all modern motorcycles made in the last 20 years. It's like saying the ignition timing is off on a tacoma.

He's busy pretty much year round and is a one man operation. I'm thinking he was at 6-7 weeks earlier this year when I sent mine in for a rebuild. I had 9 years and about 140k miles on that seat. FJR seat has stayed the same from 2006-present so seat is on my second FJR.

    https://www.laamseats.com/

He does a ton of FJR seats as the stock seat truly does suck. Pics on his site of other seats he has done. When you have him do a seat he needs info like your height, weight, inseam length, and what issues are you having, what are you looking to do sort of stuff. He also phones you right before starting work on your seat and goes back over the whole questionnaire again so it's clear in his mind and in case anything might have changed.

I appreciate the knowledge! I think part of my problem is, i soaked the master housing (bore) in super cold aerosol carb cleaner, which made it cold to the touch. Then, the seals were room temperature so they were super soft and warm on an 80° in the garage, trying to go into a bore that was probably 50° or less. That probably didnt help.

Just buy the whole master lol. For what I have in seal kits (x3 now) i could have just bought and swapped the master.
