    Really not that surprising, as each of these AC have become more complex by orders of magnitude. It took a few years to sort out the F-4 (and some would argue that it never was fully sorted), the F-15 took longer than that to develop, and the F-22 even longer still.
    All of the Century Series had their issues, and since the F-16 took over most of those duties, It took quite a while to perfect it, and the same is going on with the F-35, only far more complex (and with the vertical component, far to Robert McNamera-ed), so, in turn, it's taking longer to work the kinks out.

    Yep.

    I have heard that even basic training these days is co-ed. When I went through Basic (1985), Ft McClellan was one of the few places the Army gave Basic to female soldiers. We were segregated at the Company level. About once a week, while marching to chow, the Armory, or some training "range", we would encounter a Company of female recruits. Either our Company, or theirs would halt, and march way off to the side so that we always remained essentially out of sight of each other. Ironically, my Company had 2 female Drill Instructors o_O

    Of course back then, the concept of (senior) NCOs fraternizing with junior enlisted was not a thing.

    I'd bet nowadays, the DI's can't even drop a recruit to make them do extra pushups, as that might trigger them to need Mommy, a safe space and some Tide Pods :facepalm:

    Marine Corps started training women at San Diego this year, because it's literally a law now. Still no co-ed training. No classes together, see each other in passing only.
