I just looked at that thread a little earlier. The captain has been a little weird lately.

I wax my 4R every 2 mos., weather permitting. I use tire shine and Armor All, too. I like a clean, good looking ride. I spend a lot of time behind wheel. Having a clean interior is nice on a long trip. When I get to my destination, I use "that shit."

It don't look as nice on the way home, and i cringe at the dusty dash, but you know I had fun.

I know I'm super late to this. Truck looks really good with the new tires. I have a beat up Wilco off-road tire gate I got off marketplace for cheap. It's for a full size truck but I don't think it would take too much to fit it to a Tacoma. Lemme know if you have any interest.

Saw a couple of their guys out, but it seems they were running blind...just stopping places to see if they had anything. Can't imagine how that would f@ck us up!

All electronic...got in on the bottom floor. Crosfield POS digitizing table that wouldn't do text and page size was something stupid like 18"x24". Company abandoned that after about 8 months and went to Scitex tables. They were pretty good. Then Quark Xpress and Photoshop hit and the world changed. Eventually used 2 imposition packages for commercial publishers and got into packaging as a parallel business. Eventually, all of the book work went to China. Corp was sold, I got downsized and now I spend too much money on my truck.

I will say, a good manual stripper was worth his weight in gold back in the day.

It’s amazing thinking back to those days and the hours spent to do work that now takes seconds.

I have more than 1 bar of cell service again! Woohoo! And aww darn at the same time. Anyways some updates if anyone cares. And Tyler sorry I have no idea why I can’t see your post but I’ll message the mods when I get back and read all that stuff, I’ve been in the UP a little bit as well!

I don’t remember where I left off so I’ll guess. After doing a bunch of scouting and mostly striking out (lots of private property where it used to be public), I figured it’s time to head west. Left Florence, had another pasty at The Pasty Corner in Iron River - this place ranks pretty high on my Pasty-Meter so check it out if driving by.

    IMG_6573.jpg

Driving around Ottawa National Forest alone is awesome right now. Stopped at Imp Lake to file some paperwork and also blown away how nice that spot is. Everything is golden in that region right now. I’m confused by leaf colors everywhere else so it’s a welcome change.

    IMG_6593.jpg

Went to Burned Dam Falls somewhere near there and found my brother from another mother. Had to park next to them and get some photos. Never found the owner, someone said they say a person rafting so maybe they went down river? Who knows Iowa people to know if they are on TW? @Shellshock maybe?

    IMG_6582.jpg

    The falls are nice too:

    IMG_0295.jpg

Little Falls I found by chance on the topi map, didn’t even have it marked. So many falls up here.

    IMG_6600.jpg

Tried a couple other places nearby but the forest roads have long been forgotten and overgrown with no chance for access. Last stop of the day was Kakabika Falls. Had no expectations but WOW this place is amazing. Multiple falls going downstream, definitely worth seeing.

    IMG_0300.jpg

Weather app said no chance of rain. OK nerds, bet. Whaddaya know rain woke me up at 2:30am. All that green wasn’t on the map when I went to bed!

    IMG_6625.jpg

Camped at Big Rock Park, definitely not a very cool camp but I do commend them on cleanliness of the toilets. Don’t even have a picture of the small rapids there, not really worth seeing. Today was all about trying a super hard to reach place on the Little Sioux River near Washburn. I’ve tried multiple times and had very low success. It’s hard, maybe one of the hardest. Due to rainstorms I was delayed which ultimately cost me my chance but I got very close. Lots of deadfall but ended at a nice large rocky rapids. Have to wade upstream to get there - I had on my wetsuit and probably looked like an alien to all the trout fishermen haha.

    IMG_0315.jpg

Camping at Prentice Park in Ashland aka pearing’s back yard. This park sucks nuts, they lock the bathroom at dark?! I’m going to drop a fat loaf on the camp hosts hood. Nevermind too tired, going to bed instead.

Yeah, seems to be hitting a nerve for some odd reason. I probably should listen more when somebody says it’s not worth discussing lol

Hey I been there! At least to Burned Dam falls. Nice little spot to camp. Downstream there was a town called Interior that, ironically, burned down a while back. I drove right through it but didn’t know what it was at the time so I didn’t explore. Nearby was also an overgrown trail that led to the old Interior cemetery. I thought I went down it until I realized that was another trail.

Did you by any chance stop by there and see if there are any ruins?

Edit: glad you resisted your justified desire for a drive by duecing at that campground. Just sounds like something that wouldn’t end well lol

I was almost afraid to reply in there. He's already annoyed with me for suggesting that people should use the passing lane for passing.

Agree, Burned Dam did look nice for camping! Lots of bugs though from recent warm weather. I saw the sign and overgrown trail for the cemetery but did not investigate, sorry.

Everyone's over getting ready for Bayfield, I see.
Been there several times. U.P. as well.
We print a lot of tourist guides and literature for area attractions. From Superior and Bayfield over to Mackinac.
The entire area and it's history are fascinating.
Years ago I printed a brochure for a "lost diamond mine" in the U.P.
A quick Google search no longer brings it up. They mention another mine where micro diamonds have been found but it isn't the same one.
Always been interested in going on a Goonies treasure hunt to look for it.
Now I don't even remember the general area.

Down closer by you @CygnusX191 is Crater of Diamonds State Park, in Arkansas, where a couple diamonds are found daily by campers/hikers.
A big one is discovered every several years.
