Good morning. Temps dropping 10 degrees today but still in the mid 70's. 56 degrees here this morning. Slow day today, just the gym and some light grocery shopping.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/...strippers? Whatever bug I caught seems to have run its course, for the most part anyway. It was a one-day wonder -- one day of sore throat, one day of tremendously runny nose, one day of chest ache and tightness, one day of overall blahs and doing nothing. I still have some sniffles and whatnot; the war is over but there are still a few small skirmishes.

Utility line tree trimmers have been hard at work around here for the past few days. They're trimming branches from live trees and taking down the dead ash trees as well. There's a pile over in the neighbor's yard I'm going to fetch today. Ash makes good firewood. I need to cut the grass too, before the rain comes Friday. Hopefully I'll have enough gas in the tank for both chores.

Might want to consider the possibility from what you posted that it might have been some form of allergy and not a bug. When they cut down a lot of stuff like that close to your home you're ingesting a ton of stuff that you don't normally deal with in such doses.

:rain: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! What a wonderful morning! Thunder woke me up, and I could actually hear the rain in bed! I'll just stay there. Got up when the thunder quit, went to the sunroom to let the light rain on the roof give me another nap! Yeah! 2.15" overnight, and it's not even 70* yet. That last record yesterday was being stubborn - it went to 100* again, because a 98* record wasn't good enough! What a nice change!!!

    Good Morning Porch Folks :D.

Had an eye appointment yesterday and had to make another appointment to see the eye surgeon becase they have to laser zap a cloud behind the lens causing blurred vision. It's called a Posterior Capsulotomy :annoyed:. They say that this can happen anytime from months to years after cataract surgery. It takes more time to prep the eye than to o the laser zap and should take care of blurred vision :fingerscrossed:. So if any of you folks that have had cataract surgery and your vision in one eye starts getting blurry, check with the eye doctor. I go the 25 of Oct. and see how it goes.

Glad your feeling better Dave. But like Chuck said, maybe with all the tree wrok maybe it is an allergy reaction. Just hope you continue to feel better :fingerscrossed:.

Thanks for the idea. This is definitely a bug of some sort. I also have allergies, which I utterly ignore! Don't want to start down that path after seeing what my sister and her brood go through. I swear that chasing allergic reactions is a slippery slope, medically.

Update on the tree trimming/cutting: I had to stop hauling the wood over from the neighbor's because the crew came back to cut the second tree down in their yard. So I took a walk down the road and, whoa -- there is enough wood on the ground already to give us a full season's burn. And they are not finished. I see another Mighty Ox rental in our future...

I'm thinking more a seasonal or temporary thing not a full blown panel of tests looking for specific allergens. Some Zyrtec or other OTC stuff for a few days might be sufficient. I take generic Zyrtec for several weeks about twice a year when stuff aggravates me.

Hope that goes really well, Ken! Bad vision is a pain in the glasses!

Off work today for an eye exam and to order new glasses. Prescription changed very little but now at 63 I'm starting to develop a little cataracts. Doc says not to worry as it could be many years before it really affects my vision. So new glasses ordered and I'm happy with the outcome of my eye doc visit.

LOL, I started developing my first cataract when I was 50; my (then) ophthalmologist told me the same thing, "Relax, your eyes are still seeing better than 20/20, it'll be years before we need to do anything."

Yeah, about that, my vision kept deteriorating so I complained again in six months and then six months after that, and always got the same answer, "Yeah, you've lost a little vision, but you are years from needing surgery." I waited another year and a half and when I was absolutely sure she'd agree something needed to be done, I went back; she started off with a lecture, "You first came to me with 20/15 vision, then 20/20, then 20/30, by now it is probably only 20/40; I'd kill to have eyes as good as yours." She started the exam and got really quiet, then finally said, "Dude, over the last eighteen months your eye has fallen off a cliff, you are now legally blind in your right eye."

While it was good to get confirmation, the bad news was this was about 2010 and my wife and I had both lost our jobs, and healthcare, during the recession, and when she told me my eye was so bad it was going to cost $16,000 for the surgery, I started looking further afield. At the time I was working as a contractor doing a conversion from a legacy system to a somewhat more modern platform (a platform they already heavily utilized), and one of my co-contractors said, "Why don't you go to India, they have clinics where all of their doctors are trained in the U.S. and all of their equipment and supplies are from here as well."

Good idea, I called a clinic in Mumbai and told them my story; based upon airfare, lodgings, and stuffing my face full of as much curry as I could get my hands on, I figured the entire trip, surgery included, would only cost $6,700. Another co-contractor said, "Before you go, call this clinic, they're only a few miles north of where you live, the guy who runs it does a lot of deals for uninsured folks who cannot afford to pay full freight." I called that clinic and talked with the surgeon's assistant, she relayed my story to the surgeon and came back and told me the doctor would match the cost of going to India.

By the time my second eye went when I was about 55 (and had insurance again), guess who I went to for the surgery. :)

I'm sure everyone has weekend plans depending on their expected weather. We are going to have a beautiful weekend.

I'm going to be home, playing in my shop, trying to get my '78 Chevy chassis ready to be shortened from 131.5 inches to 112... so I can put my M37 body on it. Getting very close. I think it will happen Monday, fingers crossed. Can't wait to start mounting the body on the truck.

    Afternoon all:

No deer, but when I got home my neighbor was picking Po pinkies in my yard and donated some to me, looks like I'll be making mushroom omelet for supper.

I'm also glad to see any of the MIA vets found and returned to their home soil, not a great outcome, but at least the family has closure and the vet will have a proper burial which he well deserves, may you RIP Capt. Hall.

Thanks Kurt. The eye doctor told me it's no big deal but, anything can happen. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for posing this Ken. I read the story and thought of all those that are still MIA and glad that we were able to bring home Capt. Hall. May he RIP  now that he is back home:thumbsup:.
