Do you want an office job or do you actually wanna do shit and travel? Do mind working 16 hours outside in the heat/cold? Rain/snow? Also, please tell me you're not going in as open. Give the recruiter a list of jobs that you want and will only join if slotted for one of those jobs

Probably why we spoke well to each other in other threads; I seem to upset a lot of people here and none of it is intentional.

Tell you what though, I get reported a lot from some real sensitive fuckheads here.

I want to travel, ex SF and OSI. I don't care about long hours at all. And my recruiter knows I want either SF or OSI. With DEP, she can get my 1 of 5 jobs in 1of 5 places. Rather than 10 and 10. I will also be enlisting and immediately making E3 due to Civil Air Patrol. I also plan on doing my 20 or longer, then either being a cop, us Marshall, or FBI. I have it mostly planned out, but sh*t happens

A lot more opportunity than you think happens when you're actually in, and if you actually perform. Shit your recruiters wouldn't even know about cause most of them are POGs. Well actually about all of them, then again I'm from a different branch.

You can get a lat move and reassigned with new orders to get attached to another unit; I know.

Don't go right away thinking 20 though.

Just do your time, see where it takes you, and go from there.

Good, if you have SF on your list you will 99% be picked up for that. OSI is a great opportunity. If you wanna travel a lot as a cop look into becoming a Raven. As for bases like I said it's luck of the draw. You create a dream sheet towards the end of basic and will find out your base during tech school.

Exactly, a lot can happen or change. There's tons of opportunities if you talk to the right people. There's a lot of people that like to gate keep information and it's fucking stupid. Ask away and if you don't get answers hit me up. I don't want anyone missing out on opportunities that I did.

I appreciate all the talk you guys. I was originally going to only SF, but then I learned of OSI, and I "fell in love" if you will. It is the perfect job for me, based on what I'm interested on doing. My recruiter was SF, and she was saying that bc the military, specifically AF, is so desperate rn they are becoming more willing to ship you where you like. IK its all recruiter tactics, but they work, soo...

and I absolutely hate being behind a desk. its the worst. My mom says that id just be sitting at the gate if i go SF which, while being true, i dont mind because id not be staring at a computer.

I also agree that they dont make em like they used to. kids my age suck

I promise you the the air force is not desperate. While there are critically manned afsc's, your recruiter lied about sending you where you'd like. Like I said you can make a dream sheet in basic for where you would like to go but in the end the air force will send you where they need you. If your "wants" align with what the air force "needs" well then you're in luck. There are programs though like base of preference that you can utilize as a first term airmen after spending a little time at your first station. If you put places like Korea or turkey on your dream sheet you will 100% get one of those locations as those are short tour locations that are always rotating people in/out. Once there though you pretty much have free reign of staying at overseas locations. And yes, pretty much your first 3 years of SF you will be standing at a gate scanning i.d. cards :rofl:that is of course unless you pursue something like becoming a raven/k9 handler. I believe OSI will become an option at E4+. I also had a buddy that went to sniper school as a SF member and was attached to army units. Pretty cool if that interests you at all.

Yeah, I figured it was just recruiter talk. I also intend on signing 6 years over 4, so that'll rank me up a bit faster. I know that there are several popular stateside bases, but I'm not familiar with popular overseas ones. I'm really just banking on them needing boots in Japan lol. I do plan on going k9, which I can now do at 12 months of service. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Honestly 4, 6, it don't matter you'll still progress through the ranks the same. What helps is your CAP which gives you E3 regardless of your enlistment length. E4 is a gimme at 28 months time in grade for you since you'll be graduating bmt as an E3. E5-E6 is test based.

That's exactly what he meant. OP prepare yourself

Even Army watching the front gates to the MEK or TQ

I'd always tell my gunner "tell the gate guards RANGERS LEAD THE WAY, HOOOAH" and you'd hear the gunners to all our trucks yell that shit to the Army gate guards

Lol I took my fair share of licks from marines while overseas. It's all fun and games when the services rag on eachother but when some civilian wants to talk shit you best believe we come together.
