That's my issue now, I wfh so rarely commute. Minus the highway parts where someone would prob try to kill me every second, riding into Philly would prob be fun the once a month I do go in. Don't got a bike that can do highways anymore though.

1977 Honda CB400F Super Sport, generally only ridden to shows and such. Antique tagged. I think I might have put 200 miles on it this season but haven't put it away for winter yet
1995 Buell S-2 Thunderbolt seen in my avatar, I think maybe 150 miles this season? Started year needing fork seals replaced as they blew out last year in September so I just parked it. Was going to ride it last month and discovered the battery has given up. Battery is only 3 years old with less than 1k miles since installation.

Owning multiple bikes is both a blessing and a curse in reality. Something always needs ridden, needs maintenance of some sort, or needs worked on from sitting too much. Sadly I don't really want to sell either of the other bikes. The Buell, resale on it is so low I'm better off just parking it indefinitely. The Honda.......it's still fun to ride and I hate the thought of selling it though I would likely come out ahead on it money wise.

Riding in Philly and fun do NOT belong in the same sentence.

Like stated, if you find a good deal on the ES go for it (similar setup on my Super tenere ES), I like the adjustability on my tenere, though dont change it much (really for preload... but you can do that on the non ES via a knob). Def get something cruise control.

Ill probably do fork oil / bushings / seals on the tenere this winter as preventative mainteance (26+k miles on it by then on what i assume are original stuffs) But its really no different than a standard fork (just think of a standard fork with a stepper motor attached to the compression and rebound adjusters youd normally use a screwdriver for).

I never minded riding in and out of cities. Bikes are more nimble and can get around the bull shit. I'll just make sure I don't drop my "piece" while I am stomping out the back window of a mom's car when I am out there.

I mean, to be fair, you don't know their lives. I have plenty of friend who collect guns, some have hundreds, and some of those are rarely fired, if ever.

Maybe the sport bike in the garage was fun as hell when they bought it; as they got older though, that became a tough position for their back. Maybe thw same is true for the bobber in the garage, or the dual sport. Maybe they've had some stuff going on that makes it hurt physically to ride some of the bikes, but they loved the feeling that bike gave them so rather than part with something that made them feel whole, they take care of it and treasure it the only way they can.

I find my Buell is not nearly as comfortable for me to ride any real distance compared to when I bought it back in 1995. Somehow I think the owner is what aged poorly.....200-450 mile days used to be a non-issue but now sometimes my hip starts acting up in less than 20 miles and I need to get off and walk it off.

I mean I get this response but we also all know those squids who buy bikes, scare the crap out of themselves on it and then park it. Or only ride it to the beach cause "chicks dig it." There are people who own bikes and there are real riders and usually it's pretty easy to tell the difference between the two.

Then those people shouldn't be talking about how Iron Butt rides are dumb.

Also to me, if I'm not using something, it gets sold. Some of my friends are hoarders and seeing how they live is just mind blowing to me.

Hm idk if I've seen pics of that Honda yet...the buell is beautiful.

In your case, it's a bit more of an exception. I can get not wanting to run the Antique all the time, and buell sounds like it's had some maintenance issues. Then we reach the conflict of "is it worth selling an antique/old bike with character that will be very challenging to obtain again"

definitely fair, RE the guns thing I'm guilty of that too...have one I picked up about 7 months back I have yet to fire, and am currently looking at another lol.

The guys I specified in my post are guys I know personally though, so I know they don't have many limitations. for others, that's why i included the caveat "by choice, not necessity". but for others, definitely fair.

yeah these are kinda the guys my initial comment was directed towards. What started it was I posted my 50k mile BMW on a BMW facebook group, because I regularly see people buying new then reselling these bikes a few months - 1 year down the line with less than 1k miles. Been noticing it a lot also as I've been casually surfing for used bikes.

Just to be clear, I'm not judging anyone for it and fully understand that everyone's situation is different, and not everyone is able to ride as much as myself or others. Just odd to see it so prevalent, but maybe that's the enthusiast in me talking.

    I'm the same.

Only difference is I get lazy with listing stuff so sometimes it takes a while to get sold lol

I can't find any 2014-2015s for sale. They all seem like older bikes. Maybe all the newer FJR riders are too busy actually riding them.

You guys are making it super hard for me to commit to a sport bike. I think sport bike for track days and weekend riding and Versys for commuting would be perfect but damn it's so tempting to try and stretch for an FJR and sell the Versys (as heart breaking as that would be).

I just got a job that I'll be starting in a few weeks and the commute is 40+ miles each way so I'll be riding for sure. I think an FJR would be perfect for that use but I'm not going to get anything for selling the Versys and I've put too much money into it over the past year and a half (granted also put about 16k miles on it in that time as well).

Damn that is a shame he won't sell anything. When he passes you know the wife will be having a fire sale!

I don't want a black one either, but I might just do a vinyl if the bike at the right price is black.

HOLY SMOKIN' DEAL, BATMAN!:eek::eek: If you're even remotely interested I'd snap up that red one you linked. I don't even see the tip over marks. Might ask for better pics of the damage, just in case they are being bastards and using older photos.

Yeah, it's a great deal but it's not really feasible for me to acquire. I don't like to buy things sight unseen like that (especially since it's been tipped over and I can't see the damage) and riding across the country on a brand new bike is kind of a big ask. I can't really afford to not ride it though, as California has some weird 7500 mile rule for out of state bikes to be registered in state. Riding it home would put me at that exact mileage for registration.

    My $.02

I work a very physical job, And come home every day beat to shit. My office is a 10 minute walk or drive from where I live, but have a company bucket truck that I garage (take home) and start from the house in the mornings. Getting off work has a standard time but that is rarely met. Then, I have the on call part which encompasses a Friday evening thru Tuesday morning (this happens every 3 to 4 weeks). By the time the weekend comes… it’s all rest and recovery unless something else has been added to the schedule by the Wifey and doing things with her or my two girls in their early and mid 20’s.

Now, I do try to get out when I can but it’s getting harder and harder to do. But when it happens, I’m happier than hell to to so.

Hell, I could go for a quick scoot right now, but I’m on call. This has a reaction time as well. So doing anything I want is out of the question till Tuesday morning.

    Apologies for the rant.

Don’t get me wrong… Some have it good while others don’t. I applaud everyone here that can get out and ride and enjoy themselves, weather a few miles or a boat load. But it’s just not that frequent in the books for me
