100% understand we all have different situations, some of which preclude riding regularly if at all. Ultimately, I'm just happy to see anyone riding when they can. Just something I've noticed, a lot more so lately. Again, no judgment or hate for people who can't put on the miles whatsoever.

It definitely helps being single, or not having kids right @fatfurious2

Use the "beater" Versys as the commuter

(what year and how many miles you got on it?)

Heres my 2c. I think you will get over a sport bike for weekend warrior riding pretty quick if you enjoy your Versys upright seating position as much as you do.

I LOVED my honda 919 naked sport bike, amazing smooth with TONS of power n torque over a HUGE rev range. BUT the upright seated position, wind comfort, suspension travel (for rough roads of typical canyon carving) of the super tenere makes me WANT to ride more (even though it has essentially same power n torque but weighs 100lbs more).

I went as far when I owned the 919 to get leathers for track use but never ended up at the track because logistics to get to and from the track was just to much as was price. It might look weird wearing that kind of gear on the super tenere when i want to have a canyon carving day... till the guys following get walked on by a guy draggin knee on an adv bike.

All that stated, if you get a popular sport bike to dip your toes into that category (aint nothing wrong with swinging multiple ways when it comes to riding motos.... I myself am a SLUT and will ride anything with two wheels) so that resale value down the road is good and you dont loose much.

I would also wait till mid winter (3-6 months from now) as 1. winter people sell their bikes as they arent getting used, and lots of economy stuff going on that might make people NEED to sell their luxury items.

Always wanted to explore NC and ride back. Coordinate the buy, I will deliver for free as long as I get to ride it back!

I really have no excuse beyond the times I have the hair to go riding or make a plan for it, there's always an emergency or the weather turns to garbage.

Lol I imagine weather is a much bigger obstacle for you than myself or several of us in here considering your location. I am definitely blessed to live in an area with very consistently mild weather.

I am married, but separate incomes. No kids either. Most of my friends who have kids haven't ridden in 5+ years or sold their bikes (cough, ZRX guy). His wife said fix the bike or sell it

I saw something a while ago.. one day you just get tired, and then you're tired for the rest of your life. That day might have been Wednesday for me.. but it's probably seasonal depression.

Ill snap out of it in April, and figure out another fun trip to go on. Also Ive been addressing much needed things with the truck, before winter is here. 1st world problems to have too many expensive hobbies :anonymous:

walk softly and carry a big DINK i believe is the phrase?

Funny you say that...my buddy who had a kid a couple years ago just bought an MT-07. though he got divorced shortly before so I'm guessing that's the catalyst.

Took a 5hr ride yesterday. I left the mountain here in WV, intentionally got lost on these backroads and ended up in Pa. I stopped at my local dealer before I got lost to pick up filters for my SxS. I looked at a few kawasaki 650 dual sports, 1 used & 2 brand new. I'm leaning towards a KTM Enduro 690r but I like the prices on the KLR's.

HA. I don't know her too well, but what I do know of her, I might be inclined to agree.

absolutely gorgeous. I love that you hit these dirt roads with this bike and those tires. Respect.

I've noticed tons of dealers are trying to offload the KLR650's, you might be able to negotiate down even further. Seems there a lot of extra stock

If you don't need to go fast then a KLR is a great bike. They're tanks and have been around for decades without any major changes aside from fuel injection being added in 2022 (I think). My buddy got one to get back in to bikes, and he loved it, but it won't run at higher speeds uphill or into a strong wind. For trails or anything sub 60 MPH it's a great bike.

I ain't ever getting tired. Every 9 months or so I sit down and play video games and "relax" and then don't go back for another 6-9 months because I have a billion projects pinging off inside my head or stuff I want to do for future adventures.

I think that the public was hoping for something better with the new design of it. She got wider and a bit heavier, and it turned people off. I was looking hard at them till they hit the floors. In my eyes it was a heavy, underpowered bike with soft suspension.

When it comes to dirt I've always been a Honda guy. I sold my 3 cr500's back in 2016. I currently have a 5 seater Honda Pioneer 1000 sxs & my old workhorse Honda rancher. The Harley is fun but because of where I now live a dual sport would be ideal. I thought about picking up a Honda XR650R (aka big red pig) to use as a enduro but after kicking over cr500's for many years & the fact I'm getting older I would prefer something with electric start. Pics of my old 500's.

I always liked these old water cooled xr650R's. I've seen them with street legal kits.

    yup that'd do it

One of those would definitely make it easier but i bet riding that harley in the dirt is probably making you a better rider as well.

Also just noticed that engine/clutch cover...love it!

FWIW I am a 9-5 desk jockey who works from home so when I get off work I HAVE to do something physical whether it's wrenching or riding. I'm also only 36. My son who's three now def zapped a bunch of energy in the beginning but is much easier to handle these days.

Ouch. Hearing you say "only 36" when I'm just a few years older and feel like death... I've been fat and outta shape so long that hitting 30 made me feel old. I'm working on getting into a bit better shape. We'll see how it goes.
