They asked for all receipts - over the past year or so for ALL mechanical parts replaced...we had all of them...10,200!!!!! All new rear end (drive shaft), new belts/hoses, timing belt, washer pump, steering rack, AC, all OEM parts put on...that includes a new set of 33" KO2s. He just had it detailed 3 days before...clay bar and hand wax (350 bucks).

Very ambitious especially for a young person.

I can relate, as a kid I had video games and yes I did spend time with them. But I'd rather be out riding my bike or doing odd jobs around the neighborhood to make money instead.

I'm sure his being in good physical shape will only accelerate the rehab process..good on him!

Glad to see he will be ok. Must have been very scary looking at that truck, or what's left. These trucks are built really well. I lost my first gen a couple of years ago when a kid ran a red light & hit me and my son. I'm so grateful that it saved our lives.

That was cool of your best friend to sell your son his very nice truck and at a good deal none the less. Your son probably grew up around that thing and I imagine he liked it quite a bit. Its a shame to lose the truck but most importantly you still have your son. Good to hear he is alright and on the road to recovery. I hope it is as short and straight forward of a road as possible.

I myself had a traumatic ankle injury many years ago that required multiple surgeries, lots of time on crutches and in PT. Its a frustrating challenge but your son will make it through.

Give thanks that it was no worse than leg bone breakage in three places.

That frame absorbed a huge amount of the energy of that crash.

USAA should treat you right on the financial loss and subrogate against the at fault driver’s insurance company.

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

Just remember (and I know you're past this already) but:
    • Everything we do - do out of love.
    • There's a reason it's tougher to be hard on your child than soft (because it's the right thing)
I'm pretty fortunate that my son "just listens" ... but I still expect a lot out of him.
I never had a dad, but I had a grandfather that was as close to a dad as he could be - so I learned a lot from him.
My son has never "feared me" - but I know he "fears disappointing me".

In reality, my son is my best friend - and I look up to him so much...he works so hard at what he does. He doesn't know I feel that way, but some day he will.

Glad to hear your boy is on the mend, he sounds like a remarkable young man. Things could have been so much worse.

Your kid essentially walked away from that crash?!

    :hattip: to Toyota engineers

Mostly stock - but I do have a suction cup phone holder - its pretty sweet
Glad your son is ok!! I had a horrible accident in a Saturn SL1 when I was 19. I hit a car that was disabled in a highway lane and I had to be cut out of the car. I had no idea what happened but came to when the paramedics working with the fire department to get me out and take me to the hospital. Make sure he is good mentally - I unfortunately wasn’t. This was in 2003 when VW start the ‘surprise crash’ commercials. First time I saw one was a week after my wreck and it brought back the entire experience that my mind protected me from.

Hold him a little longer next time - and remember this feeling next time he pisses you off.
