    Oven - Stove……same to me.
    I don’t use either one.

If I can’t cook it in the microwave. It doesn’t get cooked.

Literally nobody makes coil cooktops anymore, and the closest you can get to new is ones that have been in inventory for years and were never sold. The oven at Amanda's new place is a self-cleaning Whirlpool with no convection; I think that the cooktop is a Frigidaire.

Also, Amanda's landlady refers to her tenants as "boarders", and I immediately thought of this place...

Correct. Guidance we received was basically if any part of the coil top goes bad, the unit needs to be replaced.

“Stoop kids afraid to leave his stoop”

That’s the first quote that came to mind in response!

That's bullshit; I've lived in a houses with electric stoves and not one of them was a smoothtop (all were coil). My dad replaced the coil heating elements before. Are only the ranges serviceable?

    No.

When I’m ready to eat, I don’t want to wait to “cook it”.
I don’t want to have clean more dishes than necessary.
Throw it all on a plate, warm it up, eat it, plate in dish washer.
Diner is “cooked”, ate, and all cleaned up in 20 mins.

    Do I eat healthy?
    Probably not.

Deli meat, canned food, sandwich bread…….

It was more about the availability of parts. The unit is around 40 years old. If you can find a part, sure it can be fixed.

But there is also a lack of expertise. Most repair places are not trained on old school units. Easier and potentially cheaper in the long run (if more starts to break) to “go out with the old and in with the new.” (Another Hey Arnold reference :spy:)

    @Just_A_Guy

My parents bought a brand new house in 1990, not far from where we live now. Below is a picture of me in the kitchen in that house in about 1992-1993. The kitchen was dated by the time my parents sold that house in 1996. You can see the Caloric gas stove/oven/microwave combo in the background to the left; I think the stove was a Caloric (but not sure), and it would appear that the dishwasher is a Kenmore...? The house had been built and spec'd out by a couple who backed out of the deal, and was finished by the time my parents saw it. My parents didn't get to choose any finishes, and my mom disliked the kitchen practically from day one. However, they got a hell of a deal on the house and didn't really complain...

I prefer gas stoves; I've never had a house with a gas oven that I remember...

Also, I'm surprised someone in your age range knows so much about Hey Arnold! I'm 34 and I though that you were a lot older than me...

Where did you get the impression I’m older than you?

You got ~4 years on me

Probably getting you confused with me.

    I’m 40.

Flintstones, Woody Wood Pecker. Yogi Bear, Jetson, Road Runner…….
Those were the cartoons I watched. Or at least the ones I remember.

The adult themed easter eggs are funny looking back. Never understood it as a kid.

My favorite “cartoon” as an adult would be KOTH (King of the Hill)
    I have seen them all…
