I don't think that applies to all 3rd gens. Mine never had it, although my truck is already black so that could play a factor.

Surely they didn't just half-ass paint the doors in that particular spot knowing it'd be covered up by a vinyl decal.

I would figure it's just adhesive that separated from the vinyl.

Post more pics once ya get it all off.

I have to admit I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking at in the first pic until I saw the second pic with a red circle. As others have alluded, it looks like a smudge of some sort. I also suggest trying the clean it off.

 

I love this shit, it's like brake cleaner for adhesives, it works amazingly.

 

Do you have an access cab? Because I'm nearly certain all double cabs come with it.

 

Is that a paint chip on your door where the vinyl used to be?

 

I took mine off the very next day after I picked it up from the dealer. Used a heat gun and pulled it off. Had some glue left behind but some polishing compound took it off very easy.

 

It was a hot sunny day I took mine off. What was Toyota thinking? Talk about a tasteless look. Took the red and white SX decal off too.

It's possible. I feel like I've seen others without it, but then again I've never really thought to pay attention close enough. Now I'll probably be looking though.

 

My 23 DCSB SR is black and no vinyl between the windows.

Kinda like skywriting at night to put it on a black truck.

 

I drove around my town yesterday and only saw 3 3rd gens with the covering. But, also, only 4 of those weren't black (very shocked at how many black ones were around). One of the ones without it was MGM and was an SR so perhaps that's why it didn't have it. However, one red SR and 2 TRD Sports had it.

Not a single black one had it. I understand why, but it is kind of a shame that we don't get it since, if nothing else, it's extra factory-applied protection. However minor it may be.
