I wonder what sizes battery I had tried now, I will have to think about getting me a pair of those 3.0

 

I'm not sure what size batteries wouldn't fit because of the belt clip. I sort of freaked when I read your initial post. I grabbed one the the HD CP3.0 I had just purchased and tried in my Impact Gun. Maybe @Sig45 can enlighten us on a battery that would cause a problem.

 

This was around 4 years ago, its entirely possible they made the batteries narrower or made the clips extend more.

 

I'm not sure why any battery would interfere with the clip. All the batteries are the same width/profile.

 

It’s not possible at all. 5 years ago, they (Milwaukee) released the 12 ah HO battery, the largest 18v battery they dun make, and it fit the gen 3 impact driver and drill. It looks stupid, but it fits with no modification or need to remove the belt clip.

Was never an issue on the 2.0 or 5.0 batteries I had

Gotta say I'm very disappointed with my Milwaukee "cobalt" drill bits. They cut nicely but they are so brittle that they snap very quickly. The set was a relatively reasonable price... but to buy an individual replacement bit it's outrageous.

In the last week I had to drill 8 holes in some 1/4 steel strap and I snapped two bits on the first hole. So I dug around and found my dad's old set that I'm sure he must have bought fifty years ago at Kmart for a couple of bucks... and I finished the job. And the 3/8 bit has a quarter inch shank on it. You could feel the bit bite in and cut and after the job was done the bit went back into the plastic case with the broken hinge from being used for so many years, and it will be there next time I need a bit that works.

These Chinese drill bits are crap.

I only use Milwaukee cobalt bits, and all I do is metal work

The other day someone posted on FB needing to drill through solid metal rod and I answered; drilled through it without issue using bits I've used to drill out rivets with as well as spring steel.

I put my bits through its paces and not a single one has ever snapped, both on a drill press as well as a hand drill. Using the same set for well over a year now and I've gone through as thin as 16 gauge to as thick as 3/8" and sometimes a bit thicker (like the 1/2" solid rod).

 

Sucks when a company with otherwise decent tools puts their name on junk.
Edit: No personal experience so maybe not.

 

Interested in your review of these.

 

Boy, they're really expanding the offerings. I'll stick with my ISOtunes or the low tech foam inserts.

 

Just ordered the M12 Fuel Jig saw to replace the non fuel. Tired of the base plate coming loose and the dust building up in front of the blade.

 

cp 3.0, xc 6.0 and 8.0 and HD 12.0 all have 21700 cells instead of 18650, and because of that, are wider.
Milwaukee didn’t originally plan for this, but they will replace all tools that have an issue-

3M Worktunes for me. Don't like sticking things in my ears when my hands are dirty. Didn't like it in the Army(earplugs), don't like it now. I will use the foams when I know I wont be taking them out and back in. I realize you don't have to touch the part of the earbuds that actually go in the ear, but still. YMMV

 

Well that might be a valid question, but how would I know? When I can use fifty year old drill bits without any issues, doing the same job I would do with the newer bits and getting great results... what am I doing wrong?

And really... are we saying that there has to be some kind of learning curve nowadays to properly use drill bits that have been made recently... that didn't exist back when they made drill bits that anyone could use with good results?

I've only used two size bits from the set of Milwaukee drill bits and I've snapped both and replaced them, and snapped the 3/8 replacement again. And I haven't drilled more than ten holes with either bit. They cut great... until they snap.

But I can't tell you how many holes I've drilled with the older set of bits and they cut and last.

So tell me... what's the difference?

But again I only do metal work and it's on both thick and thin, mild and spring steel, aluminum, a bit of stainless, and add to that solid metal rod





Like them so much I even have a step drill or two of theirs as well as larger individuals bits

Those bits are over a year and a half old and if any were to have broken by now, it'd be these smaller ones who's finish is gone



That's mainly because some of the shit I've clamped onto my press was rounded and would cause my bit to bend outward as it bit into the metal and it still never broke

Guess it's one of those "your mileage may vary" but yes I do believe there's a right way and wrong way to use bits when drilling into metal; I doubt at this point you've done it the wrong way by the sound of things but I don't know...weird that I pretty much abuse my bits and never had any break

 

I'd have thought I got a bad "lot", a run of bits that were made from faulty stock, except that the replacements have snapped too. And they've shattered in both the hand drill and the drill press now.

I went down to the local welding shop (a BIG outfit) last week and told the owner about my experience and disappointments, and asked him what kind bits he uses... and he says he can't find any decent drill bits that are made nowadays. They buy them in bulk from several sources and discard a lot because they break.

 

Well shit, I hate hearing someone's hard earned money going to waste.

The owner and boss of one shop I worked at had these old bits that he would actually sharpen instead of replacing. Takes some years of experience but it helps to really save money and you could get a bit to last you for many years of constant use.

I lack that skill so I just buy my bits and I've always used that set I posted. In fact I took all those pictures this morning just for you.

A lot of the stuff I've drilled into and repaired are posted in the welding section since I'm a fabricator.
