My 1999 Tacoma PreRunner needs an engine Block cracked and water got in the oil
Problem is, I'm not able to find a 2.7L rebuilt or even used.
Is there another Toyota engine or year that I can upgrade to ?
Mine is automatic, pw brakes, pw steering and air. to nice of a truck to junk.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2.7 and 2.4 are very similar. I'd imagine you could swap a 2.7 if you can find one. Worth looking into more. Lce sells long blocks if you don't mind paying for one.

    I thought only 5-lug trucks got the 2.4/2RZ. Shouldn't a Prerunner have a 2.7/3RZ?

Ehh cracked block? its early October, how was this diagnosed? I have heard of cracked heads, blown head gaskets but a cracked block? Please explain, thats a nice looking truck and worth the effort to keep it going. Im biased have same truck in green, more details on engine ills please.F5A9E421-7BC3-4FC0-9AEA-E4A920B062BB.jpg

Where did the block crack? You could always have the block sleeved or or welded.

I know this is my first post on this forum, and I'm not trying to sound arrogant, or like a "know it all" , but it's very unlikely that the block is cracked. How was it diagnosed? More than likely it's a blown head gasket, warped or cracked head. Ive worked on a ton 22r engines, and if the 2.7 is similar, then another thing it could be is the timing chain wore through the cover/head. But I'm not sure if that is an issue the 2.7 has, like I said it's an issue the 2.4l 22r series engines have and I'm assuming the 2.7 isn't much different??

I'm located just south of Atlanta. I believe they meant the blocked is ruined due to water contamination and it'd be easier and less expensive to replace the engine that decontaminate it from the water damage.

If the block is not cracked you can have it removed and sent out to be rebuilt for 2k ish or maybe even less depending on what broke. It is very hard to have an engine fail to the point it is not longer reusable. Many places don't want to repair an engine and would rather replace. Many machine shops will do full rebuilds.

Look up S&J engines, it is near me in northern Idaho, I know they will ship, and last I checked the shipping wasn't too terrible, and I know for a fact that they do good work, and their warranty is good. I have a few friends that have went thru them to have their engines rebuilt (two 22r engines, and one 3.4l) and none of them have had problems. It's at least worth looking into.

I will have to take some pictures tomorrow when it's lighter outside. Mine isnt terrible by any means, but not as clean as yours. I still love it though and very happy to have found it for sale.

Really wanted to hear from op to see what his issue was, and offer possible solutions, seems that lately a lot of 1st gens are hitting that milestone of blown head gaskets, cracked heads or worn out transmissions. Big spendy items that makes them teeter on giving up the truck, its just about once a week now there is a new story, it sucks but i understand it when an owner is looking at spending $3000 to $5000 to keep their 25 year old truck on the road. I say look at the last 25 years and what the truck gave you in service, double down and do it again! $5000 thats like 10 months of truck payments on a new 3rd or 4th gen, if the frame and body are in good shape well worth the investment.

Exactly. You're likely not going to find another rig as good as the one you have for $5000, or even close to it. Honestly I wouldn't hesitate to just put a fresh engine in it as long as the frame is good, because in the end it's going to save you a ton of money.
