Not really, Toyota screwed the pooch here. The 3rd gen controls are the opposite of every other vehicle I drive, I got tired of switching tracks when I intended to adjust the volume.

You call changing a poor design switch to something logical "most OCD" but you worry only about MPG ?

Come on, we just wanna be able to use our left hand instead of our right hand. Redundancy is beautiful. Our superfluous buttons make us happy.

seems like i stirred up some feathers with a small joke, no idea people had such strong feelings about a volume button. going to make my way out of this thread as i dont want to be around this kind of weird behavior. good luck guys

I haven't received mine yet so help me understand this illumination thing...
what is preventing the light from illuminating the icon?
can the button not be modified to let more light through?
is it possible to just replace the board and turn the OEM button pad 90degrees counter clockwise or does it not have that symmetry? I guess if that did work you'd now be choosing between poor illumination and sideways volume icons... lol

In my post #156 I wrote about how the led isn’t centered under the symbol, rather Toyota in their infinite wisdom though that the photons would be happy to travel at an angle from the PCB through a narrow black channel to illuminate the symbol. I think a light pipe would fix it but I haven’t messed around with one yet.

Haven’t put mine in yet, and maybe I am crazy, but I was looking at my OEM button and I am not certain it’s 100% uniform across all the buttons to begin with..and the one that does seem to be a touch dark is the top one.

While it should be uniform and I hope a fix is found, I am a little curious where this will fall with me, on one hand I can be a little OCD and sometimes not. I don’t think this will bother me, at least not nearly as much as when I accidentally skip tracks. Regardless, one can definitely tell in this thread who has worked with product development, small scale manufacturing and outside suppliers..

Exactly the same, the Meso board has the LED’s in the same spot as the OEM board. I think the main reason that it doesn’t light up is because the Meso pad is domed and the OEM pad wasn’t.

Not for all 4 directions, just 2 - Track Up and Down (at least my 2023 is just 2). Volume left and right are flat.

I think the point is that the "dome" is still in the same position on the new pad, the upper button. To me it still looks like the placement of an LED placed to illuminate the up arrow (top half of the dome) is not the best location for illuminating the volume up (takes up most of the dome).

This. I finally got mine so was able to see the problem firsthand. The path the light takes to light up the button works fine for the up arrow because it just has to illuminate the top of the button. since the volume down icon stretches farther down, there is a shadow. the same shadow would be there if that symbol was on the OEM button. it just happens that the UP arrow avoids the shadow
