So I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD sport, automatic. I have done all
Regular oil changes and I noticed this knocking noise in the passenger side. I have been told it could be the lifter, maybe the injectors, but no check engine. Any ideas? I know this may be an internal issue.

the hi pressure fuel pump is on the passenger side near the rear of engine. i can make a racket. if you can't provide your own, find a video on youtube or search this forum. there are lots of them and likely you will find one that sounds like yours.

The vacuum pumps are known to go out and since its a sport, they're not electric. Upload a video, I have a 2021 and mine is doing it at the moment.

Posting a downloadable zip file is not a good idea. That's a tactic used by spammers, scammers and bad actors. I would never download something like that.

Best bet is to post your video to one of the services like YouTube, Vimeo, etc. and post a link to it here.

FWIW I had a similar question right after we bought ours. Turned out it was normal (more here). See if this is anything like what you're hearing. Noise on start-up and goes away at about :25.

I'd probably delete that post so you don't scare the kids. ;)

Oh yeah, that sounds like something different than I experienced. Does it always do that at start-up? Warm, cold, sometimes, once-in-a-while? Post as many details as you can and you'll get the help you need.

My WAG is a dry lifter until it gets oil. May be something else, maybe an injector? Others will chime in.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

So not when you first start it, but later after it warms up then? In the video it sounds like it went away eventually. Does it come and go? Same at all RPMs? Notice anything new(ish) while driving it, especially under a load?

correct, it starts maybe 20-30 minutes when it warms up. It was parked in the video so it did not go away. Does comes and goes. This is for sure a new sound and its loud. i will post another video but the sound is coming from the passenger side.

Yeah, that sounds like a lifter to me. I've worked on engines for decades, but not this particular engine, so more feedback from the experts will come along.

    Oh, what's the mileage?

Could be timing chain, most engines use hydraulic timing chain tensioner(s) and chain guides i only mention that from the first video when you were at front of truck, how many miles it? I would get a engine stethoscope or long screw driver/pry bar to your ear only hold handle be carefully not to touch moving parts and just gentle put tip to engine (ie.vavle cover or block) to get a better idea were exactly noise is coming from (look for differences in noises, but if your not familiar with this method don't try it.

My friends 2009 4.0 made that exact type of sound for about 40,000 miles. Alway ran good just a loud tick tick tick, he added a can of this stuff a couple of oil changes ago……within five minutes the motor was virtually silent. We were dumbfounded.
