Yeah insane that after I posted
The sound on mine is very different and only at 19-21 mph, I’d describe it more like a lathe sound than a howl.

I have a feeling I know what you’re talking about my last tacoma did that around those speeds. Dude I hate to tell ya but these are truly old school trucks with little to no attempt to make them quite or refined from Toyota. I’m still having a hard time adjusting to ownership of tacomas but I’m slowly getting used to all the quirks

Mine only started making that noise recently, which is why the ostrich approach is for retards.

I’ve had plenty of old school vehicles, mechanical noises come from worn, misaligned was or failing parts.
Some are components that will leave you on the side of the road and some are not.

To be clear that's not my video, my truck isn't that loud. So no, I haven't, had the TSB preformed. Ym truck only has a little over 500 miles on it, i first noticed noise at about 250 miles or so. I'll be changing the diff fluid out with some Amsoil Sevier Gear-75w 90 and I'll go from there. I may add the kit myself, as dealers are normally clueless, or at least that's how they act when they don't want to mess with you.

Thats insanely loud. It needs to be taken care of, I don't know how anyone would put up with it.

I've tried Redline, Valvoline, and Mobil1 Delvac. Redline and Vavloline were noisy from the start, in fact the Valvoline added the howl between 20-25mph. The Mobile stayed silent for about 1000-1200 miles but it came back in the 52-59mph area. I did instal the dampeners myself, seemed to slightly help at first. I may have to try Amsoil.

That's not that bad. My 2021 AT sounded the same, if not louder. My 2022 MT has a different tone to it, but noticeable as well. I just turn the radio up louder.

Do you have the part numbers for the pillar pads and approximate cost? I may add those as well, I've tried hundreds of dollars in gear oil and dampeners already.:(

I wonder what toyota did different on later sr5's that they howl. It doesn't with my 2020. I have a friend thats working for the local water company, saying it hasn't happened on any of their sr5 gen3 tacomas. Right now they're not all that thrilled with the new rangers they have after a couple years using them, that they're integrating some new colorado's with their fleet. I'm going to laugh if they eventually end up going back to tacoma's.

So the dampers didn’t help at all?

it certainly does seem the 2023 models are being affected by this much more than previous years. My new truck is doing it with 190 miles. I ordered the dampers and pillar pads last night. Gonna do it myself rather than play games at the dealer. Luckily this new truck isn’t nearly as loud as my last 23.

That was the weird thing, at first it got rid of 90% of it and sometimes all of it. Over a few weeks it came right back to were it was just a little quieter over all.

Geez I wonder if toyota had been using that damper kit in some of their 2020's already that i've heard no howling from my truck. Its like this latest fuel pump smell replacement.... its not an actual recall, their only repairing the ones that complain about it.

That’s weird. You did install the new cushions too with the dampers? Plus adding the pillar pads . All parts from the tsb must be used. They all work together to quite it down

I was going to ask about that, I did not instal the cushions because I thought I read that they are the same part/washer that's already on the cab mount. I may as well order that too. Thanks

I highly doubt it. It would be nice if they just installed these dampers from the factory. I think to depending on the age of the driver and hearing abilities is another factor or people who only drive blasting the radio

The tsb specifically says install the NEW cushions. No idea what’s different about them but must be something if they are using capital letters

I had the same issue at 21k miles. Took it to the dealer, told me they had checked everything, that's normal, tough shit.

Moving on around 30k miles, I checked the all the fluids, the diff was a full qt low, transfer case was 3/4 qt low.

Drained and filled the fluids to the proper level, the howling is still there but at much lower level. I can hear it only because I know what to listen. Couple buddies went on rides with me, they didn't notice.
