Oil Brand

I just bought a 22 v-6 and and not wanting to wait to change my oil until 10,000 so I am going to change it every 5,000 and let dealer change every other time since I get lifetime changes. My question is what brand oil does everyone use?

 

Wally World super tech full synthetic. That leaves me enough money left over for a post oil change roller food corndog and a coke.

 

My truck only has 190 miles but once I get to 5k I’m gonna start using amsoil signature series

 

Whatever GF-6 rated oil on sale you can find. They'll all protect fine. Toyota's are not very particular. Viscosity is up to you as some people stray from what's recommended by Toyota.

I run Valvoline as I got a 3 5qt pack off Walmart for under $80 (at the time, this deal seems to be extinct).

As far as an oil brand, I just continued to use what the dealer here used for toyota care....mobil 1 extended. Personally I don't think changing your oil at 1k, 3k, 5k, 7.5 k, or 10k miles makes a rats ass difference. Mine was done around 9k miles, and the truck runs great. I even changed my own oil last fall, it still looked golden, so i'm going to wait till this spring before changing it again. I'll have at least 8k miles by then.

 

Whatever is on sale.

Honestly you could probably use 5W30 bulk oil on these engines and it would never fail.

Just stock up on 0W20 whenever the price drops.

 

That stuff is a 100% synthetic. New rings take a long time to seat using a synthetic to begin with. Its probably the last oil I'd use till you have well over 5k miles on the engine.

 

3.5's seem to do a little better on 5w30. Oh boy, there I started it!

 

toyota recommends changing the oil every 5K miles..........or 10K depending on use.

0W-20 oil and change it every 5K miles, or thereabouts. the dealer did one oil change and told me they used mobile 1. i noticed that it darkened quickly in comparison. some say the change in color doesn't matter, i dunno but there was a difference.

to my surprise my engine is consistently very quiet at idle.

Change your oil every 20,000 miles using extended life oil. That sir, is how you stir shit up around here.

These engines are so well machined that they even put up well with the abuse overthinkers put them through by changing oil before the engine actually breaks in properly.

And then they don't break as the overthinkers continue to abuse them with over maintenance...

 

That's what I run based on oil analysis's I've seen throughout the interwebs. Just gonna do the changes myself and keep records of it. Dealership monkey's messed up my 2021 last free oil change it had...

 

Since this is an oil thread, I’ll try not to hijack with this statement:
I find the oil weight may be more important than the brand. My Tacoma has not been shipped yet so I don’t have the owner’s manual to check, but I thought I read somewhere that they recommend

0W-20 oil. That always seemed a little light to me. In my Subaru’s I switched to 5W30. Less issues with oil loss between changes. Just my opinion.

 

0W20 is a much better choice for winter, I'd agree to 5W30 in the hot states, but for cold, always 0W20. Or if you must 0W30 which is more common now.

 

Our Outback specs 0w20 and I use 5w30; it still burns oil. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru

I used Mobil one once and engine got noisy. Went back to Toyota brand and quiet as ever. This was on a 2GR and 1UR.

 

European spec'd 0w30's are friggin' stout! They're a little pricey though.
