What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Transmission drain and fill. Oil/filter change. Added siless sound deadening material on inside roof.

 

Drove to Denver to have the tuner up the alternator output for the AGM battery and logged some data. Also pulled the VEDC out, inventoried everything, checked the expiry on perishables and medicine, tested the air compressor, etc. Just general winter prep.

 

More progress on the 3 link, just have the axle brackets to do tomorrow and I might have a roller by end of day

 

Well my K&N CAI Turned into a 7 hour install today I was 3/4 of the way done and just needed to tighten up a few hose clamps and layed my screwdriver and attached socket on a area I knew I shouldn’t of as I put it there. Sure enough I bumped it and it fell and heard it rattling all the way down into the twilight zone. I looked for hours and thought it might of fell on top of the skid plate. When I was getting ready to pull the skid plate I gave it one more look around and there it was on the Bottom of the front fender next to the fender liner. I turned into a contortionist So I wouldn’t have to remove the fender liner and got it out
Will update tomorrow with final thoughts since today all I did was fire her up and check for Idiot lights appropriately so
No lights after warm up and gave her a few kicks in the shorts and sounded wicked you could really hear it sucking in that air
Can’t wait to take the taco for a test ride tomorrow.

I’ve been seriously considering getting tho OTT lately. I’ve only put about 6k on my V6 but it just feels like it’s sleeping all the time. How do you feel with the mild/medium tune. I’m not really looking for anything crazy… but I do want it to go if I need to get on it a little.

 

You’ll thank yourself for getting it.

 

Love it so far! Best part is CRS Tuning / OTT will re-tune milder or wilder for free. So if I want to drop it back to light/medium or move up to medium/spicy it’s included from what I understand.

 

Rack on a rack. I finally got to use my roof rack for what I imagined I’d use it for when I impulse bought it at 3am one night haha. Road-trip to AZ for archery elk, then bear hunting in New Mexico (unsuccessful) then back to Oklahoma.

I’ve been running this ‘18 OR for 5 years and just hit 102k miles. I love this rig, but I’m leaning towards in the future getting an F-250 and hauling a can-am defender or some side by side with a cab and AC. I stress myself with the amount of wear I put on my truck driving roads in AZ, NM, ID and UT. Plus, I can only go so far on these tiny trails before I’ve got to turn around, only to watch these side by sides get in deeper than me.

I can’t afford it yet, but it’s just something I’m dreaming about.

 

What is the light bar you are running up top ? More pics of your rig ? Love the look of no rack on top. Beautiful truck.

Any dislikes about them?
I personally don’t like the price, but could get over it. And I need to get it right the first time, closest one is 3-4 hours away on any of them. So I doubt I would go back unless it’s a total wash. Too bad they don’t attend any large car or truck shows? That would be awesome.

 

What’s your mix? I have a broad variety of wax’s, sprays, polishes, and “Insulator” waxes. I typically soak my insulate wax bottle in a hot sink before application, but really like the thought of my own concoction as some are better than others, and would like to use them.

 

You could try to coordinate with other local Taco owners to get a tune which might be enough enticement to get a tuner to come to you.

I have my first patch on the inside roof of my Sporty Spice!!!

 

New u-clips, brass bolts and stainless split washers for the oil drain access panel. The original bolts that came with the skid were seized and had to be cut.

 

^This. My experience as well and best money I've spent to date. Was going to take my Tacoma back and buy another Tundra until I had the OTT tune. You'll wish you'd done it sooner. More here:

Probably not. Although they're not meant to be checked/filled any longer, there are still vents under those caps so that the battery can off-gas as needed. Happens when they get warm during the summer. If you've been through a few heatwaves, that's not unusual.

If you're concerned you can get a full-load test done at most any of the national auto parts stores for free.

A little water and baking soda will clean it right up. Use nitrile gloves if you like and wipe it down with paper towels or rags that you don't want to keep.
