UPDATE: Found it finally, after about 20 minutes of searcing, small piece of metal, not a screw. almost looks like the inside of an ink pen. Luckily my son has better eyes than me. It was wedged between the tread. I really need to get this thing off road more often. Thanks for all of the comments, still may have to part it :)

I know, a weird title. I do not take the Tacoma off road much. Yes I will admit she is a pavement princess. Anyways, yesterday I went up to Cloud Cap Campground on Mt. Hood. It has a stretch of about 11 miles of rocky, gravely, pot holes, ripples, etc...

Drove up and Back, an hour back to my son's store, sat for 3 hours, than 45 minutes home. No issues. I woke up this morning to a flat tire. I checked the video cameras and no one messed with the truck.

So why the delayed flat tire?

I bet you have a nail or screw in it causing a slow leak. Fill it up with air and look for a worn off screw or nail - you can plug it yourself if it’s in the treads with a kit from a local store or don’t pull it out and go have it patched (better than a plug) for free sometimes from Les Schwab or pay someone else to do it.

Now don’t go blaming your off-road driving on your flat, you probably got it driving at the mall or on a city street to get there!

I was thinking so as well, but I don't see anything. Was more curious if hitting a rock would have caused a slow leak like that

No, I still bet it’s a nail, after driving awhile you wore it’s head off so it’s hard to see. You gotta do the soapy water bubble test to find the leak.

Bead damage? seems unlikely but any chance you took a pot hole a little too fast with low air pressure? I have a Sequoia that this happened to, albeit in an urban setting. Never went flat altogether but had a significant slow leak that required air every other day until I could take it in. Had to replace the tire.
Does it hold air at all if you refill it?

Most flats are caused by slow leaks both on cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. I’m guessing you have a sharp object in your tire or a leaky valve. Fill it up with air and listen for leaks and use the soap bubble method if necessary.

Many holes can be plugged and the kits are cheap. Valves can be replaced easily. Or you can take it to any mechanic or tire shop for a fix.

The Internet doesn't know, other that lucky guesses.

Find the leak and you will know.

You could have picked up your damage a block from being back home. It doesn't have to be trip related.

I actually had a slow leak offroading yesterday — small rock got wedged between the lip of the wheel and the bed of the tire. Managed to pry it out with a flathead and reseat the bead.

Worth a look around the lip of the wheel.

I think the OP has never experienced a flat tire on a car, truck, or bicycle and had the expectation that a fiat happens quickly. Although some do, the majority do not, at least in my personal experience.

I have woken up countless times to a flat tire on my bicycle. And the rust buckets I drove in high school always seemed to have at least one tire with a slow leak.

Anyone who has lived in/near an area that is under construction knows that screws and nails litter the ground. Also look around the parking lot of a tire store (Big O, Discount Tire, etc) and look at the ground litter. Sh*t happens ... learn to deal with it and keep a tire inflator kit appropriate for your vehicle (cigarette plug for Corolla, battery-post-connect for trucks).

i dunno, sounds like the trucks totaled.

good luck on your search for a replacement.

I had one of those and knew it was a slow leak but couldn't find the screw or whatever. Got it patched and the patcher found a piece of wire that was mostly invisible. So, you might have picked up something in a parking lot.

Put the tire in a large tub of water and watch for bubbles.

Spray some water, ck for bubbling, and you’ll find the source of the slow leak, likely a screw or tack. Re-inflate, limp it into a shop, patch it up, good to go.

    Or, part it out.

    Good luck!

Other thing is a rock drill. Get a rock stuck in a bad spot and every rotation it just imbeds further and further. Not super common by any means but it does happen
