Huge fan of the regular smoked High Wire Jimmy Red Corn bourbon. Picked up the white dog at the distillery. Bought some "medium toast" oak spirals from Amazon. Then charred them myself before putting 6oz in each jar. Extra char, medium char and left one alone. We'll see what happens in a few weeks.

Interestingly, after just about 10 hours, the light and medium are already taking on color. The heavy char almost none at all. I thought the heavy char would be getting darker faster. But thinking about it now, maybe doing the heavy char sealed off the wood.

On a side note has anyone seen or tried the NEW Hardin’s Creek releases?

Boston, Frankfort, Claremont I think is the 3 of them. Retail is $170 but unlike at least the one release last year that was two years old these are all 17yrs old.. that’s an OLD bourbon…. Anyone have any thoughts on them????

Boston hasn't shown up here yet.

Also, Jacob's Well was a Hardin's Creek release last year at a 15y age statement:

So…. I was looking for opinions. Those two links are awesome that people bought them but did anyone open them? My local just got all three Bottles in, is it worth paying $600 plus for them? And yes i saw that bottle last year but i missed it for $150, the other bottle the 2 yr sat around forever for $90 I think….

I was the people that bought them. And yes, I drink them.

They're excellent whiskey. I think they merit the retail price. I would not go much above it though - because even though they're great, there's a lot of great whiskey in the sub-$200 category, much of it easily findable.

hahaha. Guess I didn’t look at the poster but I didn’t see anything about taste so I just assumed they were tucked away. Yes a $200-ish bottle is a lot but a 17yr old bottle is pretty damn old! Maybe I’ll see if he will make me a deal on all three. Did you have a preference between the two you have?

Clermont has been the best of the three I have to my palate. But it's splitting hairs. They're all top shelf+ whiskies.
