Cup holder works great for me. Apple CarPlay takes car of the map, Spotify and podcasts as well as answer phone calls and hear text msg so no phone access need there. Actually the Nav screen (I don't have Nav just the screen) is a much better screen (bigger) and in a perfect location than a mounted phone. Siri makes calls (I don't do phone calls while driving but could if I wanted to) and sends txt msg . . . . so what does the the phone mount get you other than being a safety distraction and some of them really make the dash look like crap.

Put in the Taco Garage single mount about a month ago and I have the Arkon phone holder/ball mount combo. Still impressed by it and how its been holding up. At least I see my phone a whole lot better if im using GPS

Purchased the Tackform Vent Phone Mount (SKU: TFEN-VMA11-UG) for my '23 Tacoma SR5, and it works as advertised. I can position the phone where it won't interfere with the air vent. It doesn't obstruct my view of the of the left side of the control/display screen. And easy to install. The only drawback, no fault of Tackform, is that you can't turn and direct the air from the vent and the vent cannot be fully closed. Mostly closed, not fully.

RE; The 67 Designs Taco Rail. How does their proprietary mount clamp on the phone, and how does it release? It is just a spring? Or is there a proper release button? One-hand operation? Thank you!

Adding to my previous post of the Tackform TFEN-VMA11-UG. Checkout their web site.
    https://www.tackform.com/products/vent-phone-mount-16-22-toyota-tacoma-14-21-toyota-tundra

Pic 1 - Once installed, it needs to stay. It came with an install kit, had to use a set screw. Make sure you place the vent the way you want before installing the mount base.
Pic 2 - I have a Samsung S21, with an Otterbox cover. It sits high enough where it doesn't block the vent, and you can see the display console and controls. Phone is easy to take out and put in. It's really hard to knock or bump the phone out, good grip and easy to adjust.
Pic 3 - Because of the mount, I can't turn the vent to blow left or right, and it won't close all the way shut. I had to improvise by using a plastic badge cover and clip to direct the flow downward. No problem going wide open.

    Hondo Garage.
Indestructible, very beefy and very easy to use.
I pull my phone constantly while driving, pics here, grocery getting there, UFO sightings, side mirror shots while getting passed by a GT3 on I-80.
Close the door, slam the phone in, crank it tight, light the turbines and launch.
    Awesome-sauce.

I got this one for the work truck. It was cheap, so I figured I'd give it a try. You do have to put a magnetic sticker on the case of the phone, but it's not a thick one and doesn't get in the way. Surprisingly, it holds my 14 Pro Max and it's never fallen off. Even on the roughest roads under construction with a lot of huge potholes.

I had a 67 Designs mount in my Wrangler and liked it enough to not bother looking at anything else when I got my Tacoma in '19.

I have the TacoRail with two mounts- one for the phone, and another for the SPoD controls.

The Rail is just that- it mounts to the top of the radio bezel (using some very tiny bolts) and has been anvil-reliable for 4 years now.

The arms and balls that make up the adjustable portion of the rail are as tight as you want to turn the knobs. Mine haven't moved in 4 years.

I use the proprietary phone mount clamp from 67 Designs. It is just a spring-loaded clamp, and one handed loading and unloading are all I do. I am careful with it, because I'm wary of the small bolts, but it hasn't moved and works perfectly on my Iphone Pro with a modest protective case.

    Hope this helps!

Cheap, effective, universal. I use these in all my trucks, even one in the boat.

Because I got a 23, I have CarPlay, so I actually re-routed the cable underneath the cupholders and into the center console, that way I can put my phone in my tray organizer and keep it out of sight and out of mind, which is also a little bit of a PITA if I need to pull my phone out for whatever reason, but that's what I'm trying to avoid.

Thought I'd share some photos of the 67designs tacorail for you. Again, it's been absolutely rock-solid and I can't recommend them enough.

I'd caution against the taco rail. It's a solid mount, but scratches the heck out of the phone case...for some reason they put VERY sharp edges on it. Called their support, all they offered was I was out of warranty (admittedly, I took too long installing it. Just wanted to find out if I got a bad one, but they didn't let the conversation get to that).

Someday, I'll be in a hurry and ruin the camera lens.

I did find the edge to be somewhat sharp, so i applied an adhesive foam strip to the gripping jaws of mine. I couldn't tell you where I got it, but it was just on hand. I don't mind that the case gets scratched, as long as it does what the case is supposed to do, which is protect the phone. I just enjoy the rock-solid grippiness of the mount. And if grippiness isn't a word, then it is now.

Perhaps I'm just deliberate when inserting my phone and don't have any issues. As you have an android, I could see scratching the camera if you aren't careful. The spigen case on my iphone does a better job covering the multiple lenses, I think.

In any case, good point, and I hope you find a cradle that better suits you.
