have a 2014 double cab 4x4 trd sport. Recently when I get to right around 55 to 60 mph I notice this slight vibration. Feels like it's coming from the engine, but to be honest, I don't know. I can feel it in the seats and it vibrates the rear view mirror, but I feel nothing in the steering wheel. Makes a little but of noise, but nothing horrible.
I have no CEL or any other dash lights lit up. Am I looking at something like u joints or tires needing to be balanced. have the truck in about 6 months ago to have the ujoints looked at because of a noise, but the shop who I've been going to forever said the ujoints looked great.

    Thanks.

U joints are tricky to check, they can look fine and have no play, but once removed they are totally pooched.

Typically on all 2nd gens sooner or later the carrier bearing wears out and you can move it a lot just with your hand, its the center support.

You can try to check them yourself with a little prybar and try wiggling everything.

I'm having same issue. 2014 Double Cab Off road. It was bad around 60-65 when I added a little bit of gas. Without adding gas, it felt like you feel the road much more than normal. I had all 4 tires balanced, replaced rear ujoints and carrier bearing. The ujoints and carrier bearing seemed fine by by shaking. I replaced them any way as shop couldn't find anything else wrong. This improved things alot, but still have some constant vibration, but very minor. I might replace front ujoint or have drive shaft place check balance. It's very minor now and I seem to be the only one that notices. I had 155K and decided can't hurt to replace carrier and ujoints any way.

cant really be front u joints if the vibes are felt in 2wd. Diff and front output of t case are unlocked and not spinning in 2wd. Front axle shafts are spinning, so checking cv joints for play could bear fruit. Would also be worth effort to yank on front tires looking for slop in ball joints or bushings. Most driveshafts have small weights spot welded on for balance. Check for signs where one might have fallen off. They tend not to become unbalanced over time unless the weight falls off.

Already checked ball joints, cv joints and bushings. All seem good.
Might check for a spot weld on the drive shaft, in my case it got worst after a good muddy 4x4 session. I originally thought I had mud stuck somewhere.
Are there any photos to know what to look for on the weight? It's very minor now FYI.

I'd start off with the least inexpensive causes, check for wheel balance, maybe you lost a weight, then go from there.

If the shop didn't drop the driveshaft they didn't check the u-joints

remove rear drive shaft, put in 4wd and see if vibes are present at that speed, only 10 bolts to take off

I know in my case, they did drop the driveshaft. I remember them telling me that when they called to tell me everything looked fine.

Just cause they tell you it happend, doesn't mean it actually was. Unless I see it for myself, I don't believe a word my dealers tell me here.:fistbump:

I'll check that again this weekend when I can get the front end of the truck up on ramps. I got under last night and wiggled like in this video, but I wasn't able to get it to move like that.

I don't go to the dealer. I take it to a shop I've been going to forever and a day. I trust them completely with my vehicles.

Mine is back completely as you described in original post. @TacomaPrime what was your root cause? Looking to have mine looked at again. I had transmission drain and fill (was just past due), replaced center / carrier bearing, rear u joints and balanced all tires. It seemed to mostly go away, but very slight notice it. Now it is back to how it was before where it rattle the windshield, dash, rear view mirror etc. Seems like a bad road makes it more noticeable and more noticeable when lugging / adding engine power.

I had a similar issue recently after a trip to Moab. There was a vibration when on the throttle, and then the truck started clunking when shifting from park into reverse. It ended up being a failed u-joint in the rear drive shaft. As noted above one way to test for this is to pull the rear driveshaft and then drive around in 4x4 (which is now front wheel drive) and see if the vibration goes away. I had my driveshaft rebuilt (3 u-joints and the center bearing) at a local shop and the truck now drives smoother than it ever has since I purchased it.

I know it's not really the same, but might help? We used to have a SAAB 9-3 (obviously, just front wheel drive).

On the SAAB, there was a known problem where there would be such a vibration when accelerating (but not present when coasting). If I recall correctly, it was also felt only at highway speeds - not city driving.

Turns out, at least in the SAAB, it was caused by a bushing in the transmission where the CV entered that could wear out/wallow out a little over time. When that happened, it allowed the inner CV joint to wobble/vibrate when power was applied because of the loose clearance.

I don't know how the Taco is designed, but it could point to something.

For the SAAB, the only solution (short of replacing the trans) was to carefully cut the bushing out and press/pound a new one in. I remember when I read about it, I went to the local dealer in anticipation of the problem. The dealer said I bought one of the last 5 available in the nation. Soon after, GM shuttered SAAB.

Try this. When you are going 55 or 60 and accelerating slightly and it vibrates, keep the same throttle and shift down to 4th gear…..if it goes away. It is torque converter shudder. Had it on my 2015 Tacoma with 60k miles.
