Hey Eric, so I’ve cleaned up the damage and
re-taped everything with a somewhat color matching tape. Doesn’t look as trashy and It’s safe from the elements for now. I’m in the process of door shopping, and to save money I’m going to be doing all of the work myself, as it pertains to taking the old door off and putting the new one (most likely used, and I’m good with that) on myself.
Speaking of maintenance, I would definitely appreciate yours and others’ perspectives on my primary concern. In my opinion it looks like I was extremely fortunate in where the damage is located. 6” to the left and the frame pillar between the doors would have been damaged and 6” to the right, the A Pilar would have been crushed, both points being where the door attachment points are located. I’m hoping that when I take this crushed door off, both the left and right hinge points are in perfect functioning order and I can just put the new one on with no problem.
By looking at this image, does it appear that this is the case? I know there is no way to know for certain without taking the door off but any reassurance that the left and right door pillar sections are most likely okay would give me a great deal of peace of mind.
There are some deep scratches near the left pillar but I don’t think they went deep enough to cause any damage to that portion of the pillar. At least I hope not. I’m open to any and all perspectives concerning this. Thanks!

Yea, it’s good that the pillar wasn’t hit. Sorry to say I can’t offer any useful advice. Maybe @$500TRD will though. I’d think of the door can still be opened and closed it shouldn’t be an issue.

Thank you, and we’re working the details out, He seems to be coming around and appears to be willing to make me whole. I’m not counting on that, cause you never know about people, so I’m taking steps to protect myself given he has a change of heart. I feel that regardless of the outcome I’ll come out of this on top, in one way or another. I have some winning coals in the fire as it pertains to this nonsense that I’ll PM you with as they develop.

I should add, I haven’t even tried to open the door to check on the hinge points because I am afraid that if I do I won’t be able to close it again. Waiting for a new door to arrive before I dive into those waters.

 

Yeah, I think that’s a smart move about not opening the door.


Also good to hear that you have a plan in place. I’m sure he’d hate to be charged with a hit and run… I know easy for me to say but It’s good to know it’s under control.

I wonder if he talked to someone and found out he’s the asshole and could get into a shitton of legal trouble.

 

To further answer your question…I just got back from a ‘this many miles long’ trip lol

 

I’ve gotta stop looking at T4Rs for my wife.

The more I look the more I get the itch to trade my truck in for one and buy a trailer.

 

I reallyy almost got one instead of a Tacoma when I was rig shopping but I just use the bed way too much. That was the only reason I didn’t get a T4R.

 

I don’t use the bed as much as I thought I would. Nothing that a trailer wouldnt fix. AND I learned how to drive and back in big rigs and military vehicles with trailers so hopefully I’d be able to get that skill back quick.

Not that I have any actual plans for trading my truck for a T4R… unless my wife can’t decide what she wants soon enough

 

The 4Runner is nice… but imo it is too much money for such an in between vehicle. Antiquated engine, no truck bed, big and cumbersome, virtually unchanged for only a mere 14 years (+ that 4.0 is even older).

Yes the Tacoma has deficiencies, but it’s a truck. Comes with the territory.

Plus apples to apples, the Tacoma is cheaper.

TLDR: 4Runner is overpriced
