The cost of the airbags and other necessary items may push the repair into economic total loss territory, but the insurance company doesn't total vehicles simply because the airbags deployed.

OP, glad you are OK. Your truck is almost certainly a total loss in part due to the value of the wrecked truck, combined with the cost of repairs. From an actual repairability standpoint, there's nothing there that would concern me.

Thank you. This makes sense - lots of saleable parts are left on the truck so I imagine it will get a fair amount at auction.

How many mods on it that you cannot reclaim? How does that work anyway? Do they give you time to remove steering wheels and fog lights and skid plates, or do you just accept the loss?

They allowed me access. I didn’t have many mods. The one big item I am leaving is my aftermarket skid plate. I am concerned that it might be ‘sprung’ from the accident and do not want to get hurt removing it. Right now I am very risk averse.

I have $900 worth of skids and (engine, transmission) and cat-guards. If you carefully loosen in round-robin fashion, you could check for "high sprung" ... but you are correct about even $1000 is not worth personal injury.

Most policies cover up to $1,000-ish of Custom Parts and Equipment (CPE). You can pay for an endorsement to increase this coverage. If you have CPE and the vehicle is totaled, you can remove the CPE provided that you replace it with the stock parts. For example, you can't remove your custom wheels/tires and leave the thing on the ground. However, if the CPE you remove was added to the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of the vehicle, the insurance co. will remove those additions from the ACV if you keep the parts.

i would risk it. with interest rates and cost of vehicles you're not coming out on the winning end of this deal (very rare that anyone does with insurance involved regardless of accident liability) i would brace it and then unbolt but thats me.

Vehicle was a total loss. Got more than I paid for it - so I am Lucky. Got a new 2023 today so I am fully restored.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
My '09 had a lot less damage than that, and it was a write-off.

    Yup, totaled.

I've bought and rebuilt two totaled Tacos with less serious damage than that. MUCH less. And they had intact airbags.
