It's always bittersweet packing up and leaving after these things. I grabbed one more picture of the site before pulling out today.

    PXL_20231008_163201286.MP.jpg

I decided to check out the Jump River fire tower and Timm's Hill on my way home. I realized I was going to drive right past a wayside that my group ended up at years ago when we decided to abandon camp due to weather. I decided to stop and just look at it. It's a neat spot.

    PXL_20231008_190946955.MP.jpg

I stopped at the fire tower, but it didn't have stairs. It had a ladder, but signs that that "do not climb."

    PXL_20231008_192954832.MP.jpg

I stopped for fuel in Ogema, and headed to Timm's Hill. I took the stairs up to the observation tower. It's a good view!

    PXL_20231008_203115036.MP.jpg

After that, I decided to stop at the 45/90° marker as it was pretty close and I had marked it as a spot to check out on Google maps. I didn't walk down the path, though.

    PXL_20231008_214458614.MP.jpg

After that, I noticed I was pretty close to Rib Falls, so I decided to take a look. @wi_taco , have you been to this one? There were signs along the driveway saying that it was a dangerous area, and not for public use. But, the park was open and there was a path to the River. There are some pretty amazing rock formations along the river.

    PXL_20231008_220256866.MP.jpg

Then, I had noticed that Rib Mountain was right on my way, so I stopped and checked out the observation tower there as well. This was well worth the $8 day use fee!

I just got home a little while ago. I'm definitely ready for some sleep!

Yeah! I decided to skip the kayaking and have a nice relaxing trip. I didn't even notice how time had gotten away from me until I was heading for Rib Mountain. I had originally planned on being home around 8. I think I might be obsessed with fire towers.

I also had to stop at a rest area because I had a bit of a wobble in the rear and the bottles in the cooler were making noise. I scraped a pretty solid chunk of dirt and grass out of the rear passenger wheel.

    PXL_20231009_010219055.jpg

The ride was much smoother after that!

Looks like a fun trip back! Yes I’ve been to Rib Falls, nice small park and falls. I always forget about that 45-90 marker, have to add to my notes for future so thanks for sharing that! And that view on Rib Mountain is always worth checking out but you picked a great time of day to do it!

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...

I also went to Timm's Hill. Met an older (well, not much older) couple heading to the trail and asked if that was the fat, out of shape, old man with bad knees trail. They said: yup! They fibbed!

I debated going down towards Rib Lake but went more east towards Rhinelander and Crandon. Took 55 down through Mole Lake to Langlade, 64 to Mountain and 32 to GB. Decided to check our new terminal in GB that we're supposed to move into in Jan or Feb.

Some of my favorite days are days of just driving around and looking at things.

I was surprised how busy the 45-90 marker was. Kind of a neat thing if you're passing through anyway. I've never been to Rib Mountain before, and I really enjoyed the view!

On the way home I did stop in Prentice to pick up the wife.
    Took a shower.
Sat around talking with the inlaws. We got home around 6:00.
Today I worked on the inside of the truck.
I've got most everything put away. Tomorrow I'll work on the outside of the truck.
    Just wanted say,,,,
I had a real good time this past weekend

Oh no... I am all OSHA all week long. Weekends are for the madness. That was the very first time (three years now) that the traks have come off the truck. I didn't use them-I dug the ruts (with 35's and I drug my differential, so it was deep.) Everyone winched (or was winched.) Wet and cold-wonderful Wisconsin weather.

I think my favorite thing about Friday's run was when I realized we had been off the pavement for an hour and I could still hear the cars on the main road.

Yea... we weren't even a half mile from the road at that point. Took us two and a half hours to get the next three fourths of a mile. FUN!
