I know I'll get blasted for this but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

spending a c-note on one liter of dino oil has to be the worst financial decision ever made in this thread!

Now for the hundred dollar question,
    who makes said gold?????

Doesn't matter. Toyota put their name on it. There may be many other reasons they they can deny me warranty service, but not the oil.

(That said, I don't have many more miles left on my drivetrain warranty...)

But, they can't deny you a warranty claim if you use oil of the proper viscosity and type, either.

Like I said, I got bored reading the debates, but some pointed out that other brands/types had phosphorus additives or something that can cause corrosion on yellow metals that are in the transfer case (brass or something). That stuff may show up on an analysis, I dunno. Didn't mean to create a debate here. My $100 for my peace of mind. Not even close to my worst financial decision.

I know their motor oil is made by Exxon/Mobil.

Yeah, that ship sailed for me like 46K miles ago. :D

I never did the transfer case in mine but if I did I would also buy the stuff from Toyota. There are people that swapped and then had issues. Not worth it imo at least on the gen 3 tacos.

I'm just surprised no dealerships were able to get it for you. Or, were they asking for even more money?

I have nothing against it for something you're only going to do once every year or two.

Some people claim that the dealerships just put in bulk 75W-90, so that's probably why some people don't think it's worth the money.

GL5 oils contain more phosphorus. Any GL4 should be fine for yellow metals. I use Redline MT-90 in the trans and t-cases. Redline MT-LV is listed as a suitable replacement for liquid gold on their site.

No, not more expensive. They just said they didn't sell it in liter cans/bottles, which led me to believe that they get it in larger quantities. I only checked with two. There are two other dealerships that I refuse to deal with due to bad service at one and potentially illegal gouging attempts at the other. I'd love to have a go-to dealership and maybe a shop buddy to help me out, but I no longer have much use for dealerships with this truck. I would like a trustworthy place to get a transmission fluid change done though. Anybody know how much that costs?

    Maybe @CygnusX191 has an idea.

I thought the last time I looked, it was like 60 or 70 bucks on Amazon. But, I checked and I saw it was 98 dollars now.

Again, I don't blame you at all, especially after what happened to @McSpazatron .

At $100/liter I'd say at least $1200-1500 for trans service.

Trans fluid is way cheaper than the transfercase fluid

I should try bringing the 80 in for warranty work sometime.

    So. Many. Stickers.
We have it in bulk, either from BG or Toyota

    Exxon.

Truth. And frankly, if there's physical damage to the unit, we probably won't do an oil test on it. At least as far as gearing and the differential transfer case.

    Exxon.

75W-90 or 75W-85. Either are fine as long as it's GL4

$300 and maybe a few pennies for a full service. Worth it every 100k (automatic)

Or do a drain and fill at home to get about a third of the fluid out. If you go this route it is infinitely cheaper but you should do it every year. You'll lose the benefit of the conditioner and cleaning service, but because you have constant fluid moving in and out, you'll be in shape for longer. You could potentially add some of the conditioner to the new fluid.
