This may be a stupid question but here goes. So when I got my truck tuned a few years ago the guy that did it said “I’m gonna give you the 91 tune” I agreed and didn’t think much of anything about it. As a result I have just been filling my truck with 91 octane gas every fill up since then. Now with everything getting more expensive and more mods to my truck I find myself filling up more often and spending more on gas. So my question is, would it cause problems if I start filling my truck with 87 octane in order to save a few bucks?

If you're on an octane specific tune, yes. This may cause harm, as the engine may lean out on lower octane fuel. You should consider upgrading to the new version of KDMax Pro. The current tune is fully octane learning, so you can run whatever fuel you choose from 85 (high altitude) to 93. Let me know if you need help finding a tuner in your area.

I believe the guy I got it from in Denver is still around but will have to look into it. (Can’t remember his name off hand, my apologies) What’s the typical cost of a retune, same as original price?

Edit: also if I decide to re gear down the road, will I have to get yet another tune?

If it was out of Denver, that would be Aron. Not sure if it was him when you were first tuned. Here is his contact info.

The upgrade is typically $100, although depending on when you were last tuned, there may also be an $80 fee imposed by the developer of VF Tuner, the software platform we use to create and install the tunes. He began charging this in late summer of 2021, I believe. If you were tuned before then, your VIN will not be registered with them, and this charge will be necessary to do so.

No problem! And apologies for missing your question about the regear. Adjustments (regear, AGM battery, tires 35" or larger) or reinstallation of the tune is always free. All you have to do is make arrangements with your local tuner for those.

Josh brought me his badass Tundra this evening. This is my favorite color by far! He traded his Tacoma for this beauty for the improved towing performance. His only complaints were the poor throttle response and lack of power on the low end when not in tow/haul mode. KDMax Pro to the rescue!

We started him on our "Normal" throttle response and sent him on the initial test drive. Upon his return, he was curious to feel the "Sport" setting, so we flashed the truck again. He returned from the second test drive happy, commenting on the immediately noticable improvement to the shifting and the power!

Josh also got to take advantage of our in-person service discount! Through the month of October, services provided at our location in South Glens Falls save $50!

Thank you, sir! We appreciate you trusting ADK Tuners for your Toyota tuning needs. If you need anything in the future, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Curious about how the KDMax Pro tuning service can help improve your Toyota truck? Reach out any time to find out more!

Johnny and I have been conversing about tuning his super clean 2009 Tacoma TRD Off-Road for some time. He doesn't drive this often so it took us awhile to connect, but today he took advantage of the $50 savings offered for in-person tuning services through the month of October and made the drive up from Colonie to see me.

After chatting for a bit about the mods on his sweet rig, we got the laptop hooked up to his truck, applied the necessary update from Toyota to his ECU, and flashed the KDMax Pro v10.0 Sport tune to his truck! He noticed the improved power and responsiveness right away on his test drive and even texted me on his way home to comment it was a "big difference". That's what we love to hear!

Thanks for coming up, sir. It was great meeting you and chatting! If you need anything in the future, please reach out!

If you have a Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, or Land Cruiser and want to find out how KDMax can help make your Toyota truck ownership experince better, reach out here or via call/text at 518-742-9332.

So, I'm curious to give this a whirl. I have the VF cable and software(though last flash was June or July last year).
I've tried a few others, and I want to try another tune, before I spring for a S/C and a dyno tune(no idea where I'd have to go to do the tune).
I live in New England, and usually road trip home to CC, TX.
No matter the tune, 6th gear is pretty useless, and it hunts. Huge improvement over stock, but, highway is a damn nightmare. I can get 20ish around town, but, highway drops to like 15, as I can hold 6th, or even 5th most of the time. Hills, flatlands. Running a half size up on tires(265/75-16), winch bumper, sliders. Skids, steel rear with swingout, etc. Heavy pig and I'm going with bigger rubber next.
    Forget towing my little enclosed.
I just want to have something that have enough low end, and and hold a gear to prevent a multi gear drop at the slightest hint of incline, etc.
And no, I didn't read through all 438 pages...I have so many tabs open. It is ridiculous....

Everyone's experience is individual. And each truck seems to have its own quirks. My 18 has the A61 cal already.
I'm willing to try anything at this point... oh, and I haven't used CC since the first batch OVT because mine was one if the ones that seems to drop the tune...

Potentially on the table if I go to 33s or bigger... but, I've driven, and ridden in other trucks without these issues.
I've been complaining about the shift strategy since the first week. Tried to return the truck on fact.

I use KDMax. 285's plus extra weight. No shifting issues during daily driving or towing. But I am running 5.29's.

And that's the direction I'd look. Gotta toe the line here, height and tires(inspection). Live in the hills, and the highways. Just putting my 1500lb enclosed with any of my bikes(even truck toys), towing is a nightmare on the highway.

BUT, did a little driving today after the flash.. so far, much better. I know it needs time, but, it seems to hold the gear, when I want, and actually drive like a proper slush-box.

I know I need some miles to let it all settle, but, first impression is great. He'll, wife even noticed an improvement from the passenger seat.

Thank you @Brownmatthall for the recommendation, and @PapaRee for the assist.
