They’re common and I guarantee you cannot name another vehicle that has had much issue with them without googling it

You missed the point. I said the 2.7 turbos kick in at 60mph. I said I didn't know at what speed the new Taco turbos would kink in. At some speed they will. If it's at 60 or 80 mph will have to wait and see. Why is that so hard to understand? When they kick in more power and torque but with that decreased mpg. I didn't said they never kick in below 60. I was just pointing out normal driving conditions. Everyone knows the more throttle the more turbos spool. The whole EPA really depends on driving conditions and usage.

I was driving the Crown Platinum which has the same Hybrid engine as the new tacoma for 2 weeks I was getting 29-30mpg on my daily drive. But sure how that will compare to the new tacoma but I was really impressed with it .

Once again you are completely wrong. Speed has nothing to do with turbos.

I think what they’re saying is that at a certain speed on level ground, the power required to keep the truck at a steady speed puts you into boost and therefore costs fuel. Which is true, but nobody with an NA vehicle brags much about their 80mph fuel efficiency either so….

The crown might have the same ICE engine series, but it has a completely different type of hybrid system.

The Crown has electric motors on the rear axle if memory serves me, nothing at all similar to the upcoming Tacoma other than the 2.4 engine.

Well, considering that the hybrid system in the Tacoma is different than that in the RXs, I don’t think we can glean much about mileage from their numbers. The Tacoma shares the 2.4T ICE engine series, but completely different hybrid architecture

This video was made before any announcements of the Tacoma hybrid system.

Sure, but there so many factors. Wind, hills, tires, tire pressure, altitude, temperature etc etc etc. he kept saying at 60 turbos kick in. That’s simple not true, turbos can kick in at any speed depending on throttle input. He keeps saying it as if there is a programmed speed that the turbos kick in.

I'm going with 19/24 EPA, while real world will be the same or worse than the existing 3.5L V-6. Plenty of data points of 4cyl I-4 turbos delivering disappointing real world MPG in heavier vehicles. See, e.g. the Highlander and the new Colorado.

The 2019 3.5 V-6 Highlander gets 20 city/24 highway. The turbo 2.4 or 2.5 (whatever the new Tacoma engine is going to be) in the 2023 Highlander gets 21 city/ 28 highway. I bet the Tacoma will get 20-26...maybe better with that giant spoiler.

I disagree based on that same example. If you look at averages on Fuelly.com, for the 2022 Highlander with the 3.5L = 22.6mpg. For the 2023 with the 2.4L = 22.2mpg.

That’s because it’s more fun to drive like a hoodlum with a torquey turbo motor :burnrubber:
