problems with the front end of my truck

i have a 03 trd with a 2.5 daystar lift kit. i was noticing a humming noise and viberations coming from the front end and a could feel it under my feet when im driving and passenger side. i took it to a machanic who specializes in toyotas. he said the front left axle is fucked(due to the lift because my angles are off) so i got one and he put it on. when i pick my truck up he told me that there is still humming coming from the front end and it sounds like a wheel bearing but dosent know witch one because when he puts the truck on the hoist the left wheel wont spin freely because of the lift and thats how he determines which one it is. he says i should get a proper lift with dropped suspension.

 

He's an idiot. First... He replaced a part that wasn't even bad, and now second he "thinks" it's a wheel bearing? Yea, sounds like he "specializes in toyota's". Rotate your tires.

 

Also.. Proper lift with DROPPED SUSPENSION?

 

Is your truck 4x4? If it is, put it in 4wd and see if the humming/vibrations stop. If it doesnt do it while in 4wd, then its a bearing in your front diff.

 

yea when my truck is in 4wd it goes away. so is it my diff bearing for sure?

 

Everything I've read on this forum and TTORA suggests that its a bearing (cant remember which one) in the front diff. The problem is, its expensive to replace because of the labor involved. Of course if you're mechanically inclined and can do such a project, its not as expensive. I didnt know how to do it so I just lived with it. Fortunately, it appears that the bearing wont fail for an extended period of time. There are some guys that have driven on the vibration for several years. The vibes are exaggerated with the lift, so if you take your spacers off, it should be much less.

I ended up selling my 4x4 because it was an Xtra cab and I needed a double cab. I now have a double cab prerunner so I wont ever have that problem again. I think theres a thread in the 2nd gen forum regarding this as well.
