Got my new sr5 v6 last Friday and from day one I noticed a rough idle more times then not. I don’t recall my other tacomas ever idling this rough. Now the truck was built on June 9th and took basically 4 months to arrive at the dealer. I’m wondering if from sitting so long with literally no gasoline in the tank it could have developed moisture and/or the dealer put crappy fuel in it before delivery. I filled the tank up tonight with Exxon 93 octane top tier fuel to see if it makes a difference. Any of you guys have a rough idle ?

Both my 2016 and 2020 purred. If it did idle rough, bad gasoline would not be my first guess.

Would not be. I think bad gas is mostly urban legend.

A buddy of mine owns an indy motorcycle repair shop. Half the time he'll just dump seafoam in the tank and rev the nuts off it. Good to go.
    Don't baby it.

I’m honestly thinking it’s from it sitting so long

4 months isn’t very long. Here in Minnesota we let many of our motorized vehicles sit 6+ months during the winter.

I would bring it back to the dealer and explain the behavior. The truck is brand new.

No rough idle here. ECU probably already figured me out.

What do you mean by rough idle? It's a noisy engine that ticks and grumbles a bit. The 5.7 in the Tundra is the same way. We joked about it having a "diesel sound package" because of the clatter.

Physical rough idle like it had a decent rumble in the seat and floor board more times then not

Ah, that doesn't seem normal at all. With it being new, I would 100% take it to the dealer. Try to have the tech check it in your presence, and if they say it's normal ask to see it in a new one they have on the lot.

What if it’s a timing cover leak?

    Just kidding lol.

It’s probably normal like the others have mentioned… the “diesel mode” as some people call it.

My neighbor is a mechanic and a while back he was standing next to my truck talking to me while it was idling and he legit thought I had done a diesel swap.

Edit: I just saw the thing about it being physically rough. Definitely not normal!

Fuel issues usually take 2-3 tanks to balance out. That's a lot of miles/run time to have an issue. I'd take it in. Why risk it?

Does it do it in Neutral also or just sitting at a light in Drive?

    Give it 500 miles.

    Then make a warranty appointment

Gas isn't going to fix it
