I did an unintentional and perhaps risky experiment today. I pulled into the gas station after work with my gas pump idiot light on, the range on the HU showing ---, the needle square on E, and the MDM pleading with me to refuel.
The MDM showed tank average MPG of 20.4, and my trip odometer since last fill was at 384.
    I put in 18.87 gallons.

Theoretically I still had 2.2 gallons in the tank (21.1 gallon capacity I believe), and perhaps giving me another 44 miles range.

My conclusion is that yes, I could go over 400 miles on a tank, but better yet I should just believe what the car tells me and fill it up when it wants. It's good to know I have more than fumes in the tank at that point but the obvious and wise action is to seek fuel and not find out exactly how much the fuel pump can suck out of the tank.

    That'd be a Supra. I'm guessing a 1990 - 1992.

    Edit - or an 87 ;)

I saw those sprinklers and thought no way. The sand you pick up at the beach (in NC anyway) has seemingly got glue mixed in with it. :) You need something with a lot of pressure to flush it off undercarriage. I use a pressure washer and 5 foot wand with a 60 degree curved tip. And even then there is sand left behind but at least it's now diluted. I'll slide under a couple times a year (with Race Ramps) to check for rust and blow out any dirt/sand I find hiding from plain view with compressed air. Do it on both the Taco and my 3/4 ton Chevy. Then touch up with Eastwood Chassis Black and Amsoil HD MP. I know that sounds like a lot but a couple hours 2/3 times a year goes a long way in rust prevention. Oh, and don't forget the sand riding on the skid plates.

Thank you very much! You don't realize how hard cancer is until you have to fight it yourself. Reaching a milestone this Friday though, my 13th Immunotherapy treatment, I'm halfway thru treatments! Late April 2024 can't get here quick enough!!

Fishing has been great when the weather permits. We've had a lot of wind which produces big waves and lots of current. But, when you can hold bottom, you'll catch all you want. Temps still great also, just started getting a little cool at night, but 70's during the day, perfect fall weather!

Wow, hard to find the old Supra's in decent shape. I had an '83 1/2, the first generation of the new body style. Man, I loved that car, wish I still had it today. Had to get rid of it when we started a family, hard to get a child seat in the back :annoyed: Just started my company and couldn't afford to keep it and get a family vehicle. (Couldn't bring myself to admit I had a mini van)

I honestly feel like the best mileage I get is when I fill up at about 1/2 tank. That being said.... I generally wait until I'm down below 1/4 tank before I pull into a gas station. I'm generally putting in between 16 and 18 gallons...I get my best mileage on the first half tank and I'm always telling myself to stop and fill up however I rarely do

It's a good preventative measure... It's not a lot of work...... especially if you have to pull the bed and try and reform rust EVERYWHERE.... I learned my lesson the hard way and also get on my back a couple times a year to do this ... Down the road we have a pay carwash that actually has hot high pressure water and it's pretty cheap if your only using the water. The beach air, sand, salt are relentless... To me this is a necessary measure....it's even more important that washing and waxing.... The foundation needs to be cared for.

Dana 60 under a 3rd Gen. Nice! If I ever scrap my '92 Chevy I guess I can swap my 14 bolt and 9.25' front IFS onto my Taco. :)
