I just got back from a weekend camping trip. Around 120mi towing home. Around 60mi at 60-65mph and 60mi freeway at 75-80mph keeping up with trafficPXL_20221004_151603966.jpg . Pulled the whole time in 5th with my OTT tuned TRD OR MT. Pulled great! Got 12.4mpgs. Very happy with that. Thanks again Justin.

Happy to hear you’re happy with the performance, but don’t most states in the midwest (if not most in the US) have a slower speed limit when towing trailers?

I haven't seen any signs here in Michigan restricting it. Semi's are running that speed too. The freeway speed limit is 75mph here. Being honest, I was going to keep up with traffic anyway.

V9 has a bump in output (in a few areas of the power band) and a more manageable response on the initial pedal application. The transmission function will be largely the same.

It’s an evolutionary update that I think is worthwhile.

I definitely can tell the difference in throttle response compared to Version 7/May 2022 when I got my initial flash.

The acceleration is very noticeable without using ECT.

I'll report back with ECT (Spicy) engaged.

Good evening guys, I'm going with an OTT tune but need some advice or thoughts. I bought a sprint booster a while back and it's ok, definitely better than without it. I run it on the green(lower of the 2 settings) setting level 7(1-9).

But my 36k warranty is over so I've decided it's time to upgrade and ditch the throttle controller. I don't want something too crazy, maybe something 2 steps or 3 above stock whatever that means. Similar to the tip in I have now with the controller but with the added benefits of AGM battery option, shift points, etc.

I have 255/85r16 muds now but may go back to 32s not sure if the tire size is entered into the tune. I also have steel stuff attached so my truck weighs almost 5100 lbs without me in it.

Right now with sprint booster and ECT on all the time it's ok but I'd rather have that or something slightly milder as my baseline and then have the ECT button setup to spicy or whatever its called... what setup would you suggest?

Sorry, my truck is a 2022 v6 auto. Daily driver, I've put 38k miles on it since Dec 2021 so economy and traffic manners are somewhat important. It also sees trails and other assorted gnarly offroading. I don't Tow often but the truck only gets heavier with people and gear. Looking forward to your thoughts.

@JustDSM I just got a 2005 GX470 from a salvage auction and was curious about tuning. Hptuners doesn't show support for Lexus, but I saw OTT is able to tune select 05+ GX470's. What platform do you use to tune that, and how do I know if mine is tunable? I do want to supercharge it in the not so distant future.

    Thanks!

Congrats! Sounds like something fun is brewing!

We use VFTuner for the GX470 platform. We just need to verify your Cal ID to determine if support is available. You'll probably find yours is a 36052100 or 36052200, which are both supported.

not to put the cart before the horse, but is an 8 speed transmission, turbo 4, and hybrid motor a good thing or a bad thing for the tuning business? asking for a friend.....

8 speed - The additional gears is a "good" in our eyes, at this point I've not seen (nor really dug deep) to find the actual specification of the 'new' 8 speed transmission. Rumored a variant/version of what's in the Highlander seems to be what others are speculating. If that's the case, it's still a double overdrive transmission like the current AC60F/E that's in the 3G Tacoma. however, 6th gear is now 1:1 versus 4th in the 3G. This will work to the advantage of the 4G. The additional gears available at > 1:1 will allow the motor to stay in the targeted RPM range facilitating a higher amount of torque delivered to the tire for quicker acceleration from a vehicle at this power level than an equal vehicle with less gears. How it is received in OE form will be depending on whether or not Toyota truly took what happened with the 3G to heart (poor transmission shift scheduling). Time will tell..

Turbo 4 - This will be great for the tuning community. As we're not going to have to fight and scrap over 5hp like we would on a N/A engine. I expect there to be easily be 20-30hp and likely even more torque to be available from tuning. I doubt we'll have access to tuning the hybrid variants for some time. It's likely to be "some time" before even the regular non-hybrids are tunable. We'll have to see how that develops. I know it's very much a priority for the software developers.

My take, at this point in time. :) Hope that helps!

It will be very interesting if the detuned SR will be able to be tuned to immediately be turned into a non-SR output engine :D

I take delivery tomorrow, hopefully. It'll probably be a month or so before I get around to buying vft. Want to get it NA tuned first since it'll probably be a bit longer before supercharging. Do y'all have any dyno charts for the 4.7? Do you get similar eng/trans tuning results to the HPtuners? Look forward this next project. Been too long since I've had a small suv!

Turned on ECT for 7.5 miles...WOW!

    This truck has some get-up-and-go!

Love the immediate torque power band. My truck drives awesome!!!

Listened to this song while experiencing: OTT V9, Mild Drive/Spicy ECT.
