One piece right along the bottom lip. Once you squeeze it up there the lip will hold in. Mine would occasionally slip out but I think it was cuz my pipe insulation was too thin

There's a horizontal flange at the bottom so just fit the tube above that and it won't fall out. I think adding a couple of vertical pieces that meet the ends of the horizontal piece will add to the noise reduction although I'm still not certain why it works.

It's blocking the sound that would normally come up through the gap between the cab and bed. I know I heard a lot leas exhaust after I did it on my old truck which is right below the gap.

I understand it blocks noise in some manner but what I don't understand is why there? On my truck, it's road noise that comes into the cab mostly from the rear seat area which I suspect is transmitted through the vents, thus blocked by the tube. I've owned 7 Toyota trucks and as I mentioned in another thread, this is the noisiest. Next was the FJ Cruiser which was understandable since the rear wheel wells are inside the cabin. Also with that vehicle I heard the exhaust noise much more than any other.

In any case, I'll add the vertical pieces and may just leave it at that. I'm not looking for a whisper quiet truck, just something not this noisy.

Yeah, that's why I was guessing vertical over the vents. Assuming the horizontal tames the road noise and exhaust drone.

Agree that 2nd and 3nd gen Tacomas are louder than the earlier pickups, and all of the 4Rs except 1st gen.

Vents... so is that what that black vent-looking thing is in the picture? It's venting outside air into the cab behind the seat back?

The vents are for pressure equalization when the flux capacitor kicks in. I know I didn't cover it when I did my truck.

I only know it's there because I uncovered it. I'll cover it up again, once I get the soundproofing in. I'll crack a window...
