I'd agree, if you had a carb using fuel with ethanol being lean...carbs have fixed jets...you need bump up a jet size for ethanol blended gasoline. Fuel injection compensates for any lean or richness. The manufactured would need to do a poor mapping job with electronic fuel injection to cause engine damage. The most you'd see with 10% ethanol fuels is a tad lower fuel economy on today's fuel injected vehicles.

 

FWIW, in other vehicles I've seen about a 10% MPG increase by switching to E0 fuel. It's never been enough to outweigh the cost of E0.

 

I run regular my 18 with a lift and 285/75/16s did 26.7 mpg on the way into work this am.
Local station has non ethanol but just in super I run it in the mower and snowblower to avoid carb issues after sitting waiting for their season to work.
It’s expensive enough to fill the truck every week and it seems happy with regular.
70$ this am just under 1/4 tank!

 

Actually mine runs better at 190 proof. Once lower than 150 the engine pings.

 

Bust out your flame throwers, here we go: I use ethanol free 91 in the Taco. The only reason I do it is because I fill my classic cars with the same stuff and refuse to take milliseconds of brain power to consider what I am driving before I select the grade of fuel at the pump. Laugh, but over the course of life I am saving 20 - 30 seconds. BOOM. Opportunity cost my bros.

Duration is time not distance. At 45mph, I get close to 30mpg, at 75mpg, I'm closer to 17mpg. Duration would tell us the average speed.

 

I use Regular gas because I live in California and can't afford to pay more for Premium! Regular works fine.

 

I know I'm bringing up an old thread.

After reading through the thread and reading about folks who swear it's worth it to fill up with higher octane I wanted to affirmatively say, "in my experience." So I put 93 in my truck for the last 3 tanks and currently halfway through my current tank of 87. Prior to this I've always believed, based on my understanding of how octane works, that higher octane in an engine that doesn't require it is a waste of money.

Now that I've actually spent ~$60 of my own dollars (there's approximately $20 more per tank when filling up with 93) I can at least say from experience higher octane in my truck does nothing. No change in MPG and perhaps a slight placebo in mid RPM part throttle power. Definitely nothing that would make me consider spending an additional $20 at the pump.

 

That's weird. When i put high octane in my truck i get flames shooting out the tailpipe when i step on the gas and the front end comes off the ground. Maybe it's because mine is just an SR5?

I got a 5 degree of timing advance in some areas of the rpm vs cylinder fill. There is some benefits but for the majority of the maps it's so minimal I'm not surprised.

 

In terms of secondary effects: there are a lot fewer germs on the "94" button than on the "87."

And at the Chevrons in Canada, you get a separate nozzle. It's like travelling in business class.

I half expect to hear the cashier come on the speaker and ask: "Would you like another Mimosa?"

 

I did get the best tank of MPG running E-0, don't remember what octane rating it was though.

E0 = 14.7:1
E10: = 14.1:1

E0 = 114,000
E10 = 111,000


So yeah you're going to get better gas mileage but it's minimal. One thing that is often overlooked is the unburnt hydrocarbons. This can be reduced by 30% which is the main reason we have e10.

As long as you aren't going for months at a time without adding fuel to your gas tank, e10 is a good thing.

 

I usually run the cheapest regular gas without any issues. The other day, I accidently filled up with Premium. I didn't notice any difference.
