Man, I really don't need or want foldable chin spoiler technology on my truck. I get the idea why it would be great, but I would have that broken in no time and then I am sure some warning lights or drive errors would pop up on the dash. And you know that is not ever gonna get warrantied.

I'm more than happy to deal with it myself in otherways. I need to see real world MPG with it vs. without before changing my position. If it actually is around 5 MPG like stated in the one video I will wish I had the tech solution. If it turns out to be 1 MPG tops like the 3rd gen, I will be more than happy to unbolt it and forget about it.

 

When given a clean-sheet to design a front end that is both attractive and efficient, the engineers & designers had lunch at Applebee’s and said, “screw it, buyers can just take it off w a few bolts if they don’t like anyway…” . That’s either the world’s most successful car co, or could also be the modern solution that my son’s 1st grade class came up with.

Thankfully, nothing a good mid-cycle refresh can’t work out.

What is the rationale behind revealing a vehicle many, many months (in some cases, over a year) before it's actually available for sale?

There has to be a reason behind this practice.

Meaning...the auto makers burn the "let me think about it" time period with otherwise unusable time?

It’s tacomaworld. Toyota addressed so many shortcomings of the current generation. Fully boxed frame, better transmission, higher payload, low end torque, fuel economy, four wheel disc brakes, disconnecting sway bar, seating position. While still keeping it familiar from a styling and functional perspective. These people will find anything to bitch about I swear.

 

I am literally asking why automakers, in general, reveal so many months before shipping.

It's called creating hype . Same reason movies have teasers months in advance

 

Vehicle advertising and creating hype isn't necessary. Not when you can google Toyota Tacoma. When was the last time you saw a person who didn't have a smart phone. Toyota partnering with the NFL to sell trucks is a colossal waste of money, but it's not their money. You will be paying for that when you purchase a ne Toyota truck.

 

GM has an all new midsize.

No need to advertise on television in 2023. Not in sports that are not motorsports.
