    @Wulf

EGR throttle plate connector; it's tucked in back a bit which is why I couldn't see it

After getting out in the mountains for a bit, do you feel that you missed out on anything with the new phone and provider?

No I was pretty happy with it. Phone isn't a flagship like my old one was so maybe not as compact and "extra" but still better in the radio department. I was happy with my coverage and surprised where I still had fast 5g.

IMG_7549.jpg Picked this up yesterday... $900 for a complete setup, including a full bottle of gas. 10 minutes with some soapy water and it's leak free and looks brand new. Did a lot of (shitty) welding at my last job and learned a decent amount through trial and error experience. I don't have a huge need for one at my house but didn't want to lose the little skill I had gained. First project is to finish my front bumper that has turned into a big SNAFU with my local welder. After that I'm gonna take a stab at a platform system for the bed. Now I'm wishing I had opted for @Kwikvette 's WIY stiffy kit instead of the welded...
I'll post my welds so we can have something to laugh at :anonymous:

On a related note, any suggestions for a decent respirator that works well under a hood? I'm 125# soaking wet and most respirators are a little sloppy on my narrow face :annoyed:

That is very good to hear. I recall only one campsite where I had service and you didn't. But I'm not sure. I can't recall if there was a time where that was reversed.

Yeah that very last one where you could occasionally get enough signal to check the weather I didn't have anything. But as soon as we started descending toward the highway I picked up service.

Thanks! I'll pick up one of those respirators asap. Hoping to get a little life out of the generic hood that came with the welder before I spend more money on a new one... still need to pick up a few other accessories before I start upgrading.
Any input on a welding table? Obviously they are an essential part of the process, but for the short term I was hoping to get away with using one of my beat up wooden benches that I have too many of. Is this stupid?? Obviously I'll be very aware of fire danger...
Sorry for all the freshman questions lol

I needed a temporary setup at home when we first moved in and opted for the cheap HF welding table and added a steel plate on top.

Welded angle iron along certain areas to maintain rigidity and I still have that set up in my garage (year and a half later).

You could do what I did recently and find a local shop to laser cut one for you. You'll just have to figure out what to do for legs but that's easy to figure out.

Picked this up a few days ago as I had the local fab shop laser cut this for me out of 3/8" thick steel; at 2' x 3' it's big enough for most things I need and it weighs in at just under 100lbs -

    20231011_145824.jpg

Ran me $158 all in, which isn't bad considering a lot of these Chinese fab tables cost between $180 - 240.

The Chinese fab tables work very well, and are a huge step up from the cheap folding Harbor Freight variant, but for what you pay you can get a table that'll last you a lifetime with just a tiny bit of DIY (and less money).

Sweet, that sounds like the way to go... I'm cheap but don't mind spending money to do a job right. I was hesitant to pay 500-700 for a used "real" table on FB, especially since I'd probably have to rent a forklift to move it. There's a HF one town over so I'll grab one next time I'm in the area.

Honestly doesn't look too upset about it!
