UPDATED: It's the Timing Cover - 23 Pro Bad Main Seal

Well, 2300 miles in on my Pro and my rear main seal is already shot. Damn the luck, so fustrating.

 

Wow. And most folks here thought it got sorted out . I guess it’s just like what you said. You got unlucky . At least it’s under warranty

 

Ya, I'm just butt hurt about it because I bought my 16 Tacoma new and a week later the rear diff blew because it didn't have any gear oil in it. That's 2 new ones in a row.

 

Haven’t heard of this problem yet on new ones :-/ . How did you find out ? Oil leak and that’s what they diagnosed ?

 

How bads it leaking?

 

On my 2022 they had to replace the valve cover because it was leaking oil at 2500 miles then at 4500 miles the head started leaking (bad cast). Got rid of it and got a 23 and the brake booster, power steering pump and rear diff were replaced on that truck. Now I have another new 2023 lol

 

I took it in for an early oil change and they found it. I don't drive it too much, got it in April, so I haven't really paid attention to it since it was new.

 

It was blown all over the undercarrage.

 

You talking about the rear main seal or front timing cover ?

 

That sucks. I really don't want a new one cause I already put new tires, new speakers, ceramic coating and other crap on it and would be out cash.

 

Us 2017 owners don’t understand as we own the best Tacomas ever produced.

 

Rear main seal. They have to pull the trans and other stuff to fix it.

Ya they claim it was probably pinched during assembly.

 

Interesting . So it most likely was leaking from day 1. What’s your vin start with? 3ty or 3tm?

 

You guys are more likely a leak from the timing cover but then again I don’t think any years safe

Engine was made at the Alabama plant then. Vins with 3tm the engines come from Kentucky engine plants

 

Yep , a year older to get the bugs worked out and they still cared about building the quality expected in the "new" 3rd Gen. All other years are afflicted with the assembly malaise.

 

My timing cover gasket was inspected by Mike Sweers himself. That’s what the dealer told me.
