The whole route took us 1.5 days - we started on the morning of day 1 and ended at 3:30pm on day 2, so you can probably do the whole thing in the time you have. That included all our stops at fire lookouts and the Hat Creek Radio Observatory, so if you skip some of that, you can do it in even less time.

I would say that if you want to eliminate a part of it, then the part after the Hat Creek Radio Observatory would be the least interesting.

I noticed you brought some gas, how much did you end up using. Thinking of buying an extra 5 gal jerry can after making up my own route from yours.

The entire route was 250 miles. We didn't get gas at the start as we were just wrapping up the backcountry route through the Plumas NF (they connect at Lake Almanor, essentially). So, I put in 11 gallons from the jerry cans, but I'm not sure it's necessary if you're full when you start.

A little off topic but anyone know of some open backroads? Bought an '08 civic si sedan and learning stick shift and I've been wanting to take it somewhere with less busy open roads to have some fun and get used to driving the car. I'm on Santa Rosa, Cotati area.

Head up 101 and take 128 through Anderson valley and Navarro woods out to the coast. Then down Hwy 1 and back into Sebastopol on bodega Hwy. Go on a weekday morning, it’s one of my favorite loops on road with a sporty car.

Head out to Occidental, from there you can go south on Joy rd towards Bodega or west on Coleman Valley rd and then south back to Bodega and Petaluma or North and return via Russian River. All of west Marin and Sonoma is two lane blacktop rural roads. Get off 101 anytime before the bridge and head to the coast.
    Hwy 1
    Sir Francis Drake Blvd
    Novato Blvd
    Hicks Valley Rd
    Valley Ford Rd
    Drake’s Estero
    Joy rd
    Coleman Valley Rd
    Petaluma D st
Just go out there and try and get lost. It’s so open it’s almost impossible but fun to try.

Haha, my friend drove me through SF to get to the dealer where I bought the car from. Some of those streets are damn near 90 degrees. And I thought off roading had some crazy inclines!

I'll definitely look into this. When I have a weekday off, I might just go early in the day!

    Sounds nice. Love it. Thanks!

Does your Honda have the hill holder feature? If so, pretty easy. But learning to clutch on a hill is pretty important.

    Hi everyone!

New here and relatively new Tacoma owner I wonder where do you do your maintenance service? I did my last service at the local Toyota dealership: simple one changing oil and rotate tires. But for the next one the announced a pricey cost to change the Automatic Transmission Fluid and I wonder if you have a better and cheaper address in San Jose.

I was not able to found some recommendations in the "Norcal Trusted Vendors" section reason why I am posting here. Thanks in advance for your sharing.

No hill assist. Not much tech in the car at all compared to modern cars since it's 15 years old. It's got a radio and a sun roof and that's about it

There's a parking lot near my work with a slight incline. Every so often I go there and practice starting on an incline. I'm getting the hang of it but there's a street that I sometimes drive down for fun with a stop sign and incline. I still stall every so often but I just try to hold the brakes with my right foot while bringing the clutch up to the engagement point then foot off the brakes and add throttle until I can take off normally.

Sooo my driver side door lock will not unlock from the outside handle. Does not unlock with the key either. My work around is to leave the window rolled down and open the door from the inside handle.

anyone know of an alarm/stereo person who can install an powered automatic door lock/unlock system?

Is that even worth it to do these days?

it’s old school manual window and door locks on my 1st Gen.

You mean you have to roll the window down?

Can you pop the door card off and see if it's just come loose or something?

sorry, yes, I have to roll the window down.

I popped the door panel but have no clue what I’m looking at. I did hear a piece of plastic fell to the bottom right before it stopped working. Couldn’t find anything though.

Sounds like the lock rod plastic connector has broken. You're halfway there already with the door panel off. Just need to get more.

Take the passenger side door panel off and you should be able to see what your missing. I would replace them all.
